STARKVILLE, Miss. – A fourth-quarter push by the Alabama women's basketball team fell short as the Crimson Tide dropped a 60-45 road game to Mississippi State Sunday.
Despite the loss, the Crimson Tide (20-7, 9-5 SEC) outscored the Bulldogs 17-13 in the last quarter thanks to a 13-2 run. Brittany Davis (14) and Aaliyah Nye (12) combined for 26 of the Tide's 45 points in the game. Both Alabama players paced the Tide with three steals as Davis added a team-leading eight boards.
Mississippi State (19-8, 8-6 SEC) was led by a 24-point, six-rebound performance from JerKaila Jordan. Ahlana Smith tallied 15 points and Ramani Parker had 10 boards in the win.
Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry Said
"Just created Mississippi State today. I thought they played with a tremendous amount of energy. We had a lot of shots that we missed, but I thought a lot of it had to do with their defense. We just allowed them to dictate us and be really physical with us today, and we didn't respond very well. Every position (struggled), especially Jada (Rice), Sarah Ashlee (Barker) and Ryan (Cobbins) were 3-of-16. We're going to struggle on a day when we really can't find points at the four and the five spot beyond Britt (Davis) and be able to rebound the ball better to. We got outrebounded by 10, 3-for-8 from the free throw line. So, we just had a hard day. It was just one of those days, and it's all going to be about our response and we get another opportunity to do that again on Thursday."
