Alabama Closes Tenneseee Invite with School Record

Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished third in the team standings
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 22/21 Alabama swimming and diving teams concluded the fall portion of 2023-24 season with a school record and a third-place finish on both sides of the competition at the Tennessee Invite.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Zarek Wilson, Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves and Tim Korstanje highlighted the day with a school record as Tommy Hagar secured a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. On the women's side, Cadence Vincent tallied her second individual third-place finish with her performance in the 100-yard freestyle.
The No. 21 UA women's team finished the meet in third place with 591 points, behind No. 1 Virginia (1,107) and No. 18 Tennessee (857.5). The No. 22 Crimson Tide men recorded 702.5 points for a third-place finish as No. 14 Tennessee (1,216) and No. 12 Virginia (855.5) took first and second.
The Women's Meet
- Ella Menear swam a 1:55.36 to finish fifth in the 200-yard backstroke
- Vincent posted a 48.44 in the 100-yard freestyle to earn her second individual top-three finish of the meet
- Kailyn Winter recorded a time of 49.43 to finish sixth in the 100-yard freestyle as Diana Petkova won the B final to finish ninth with a time of 49.20
- Avery Wiseman's 2:08.24 ranked her fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke
- Jada Scott, Vincent, Winter and Diana Petkova closed the night with a 3:13.95 400-yard freestyle time for third place
- Scott's lead-off time of 48.21 was the sixth-fastest 100-yard freestyle swim in program history
The Men's Meet
- Wilson, Hawke, Alves and Korstanje shattered a two-year-old school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay, going 2:47.95 for a second-place finish
- Hagar's first-place finish (1:41.65) in the 200-yard backstroke paced a trio of top-five finishes for the Tide as Jake Marcum finished fourth (1:42.94) and Eric Stelmar placed fifth (1:43.39)
- Hagar's time ranks him sixth all-time in Alabama history in the 200-yard backstroke
- Hawke swam a career-best 42.31 in the 100-yard freestyle to earn a third-place finish as Alves followed with a career-best 42.36 for a fourth-place finish. Zarek Wilson secured a time of 42.99 to win the B final and record a ninth-place finish.
- Michael Deans finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 1:54.71 to move him to fifth all-time in program history
- Trey Sheils swam a 1:56.11 to finish ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke while winning the B final and moving to ninth all-time in program history

- Members of the Crimson Tide will head to Greensboro, N.C., to compete in the US Open
- Competition will begin Nov. 29 and will run until Dec. 2
