
No. 19/20 Alabama Sweeps Men’s and Women’s SEC Weekly Swimming Honors

The Crimson Tide captured the male and female Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week as well as the male and female Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 19/20 Alabama men's and women's swimming teams swept the Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
Kaique Alves and Mackenzie Brandt won the men's and women's SEC Swimmer of the Week honors after pacing the Crimson Tide to a dominate win over Missouri. Tommy Hagar and Jada Scott secured both Freshman of the Week honors for the Tide, after a strong showing in their second-ever collegiate meet.
The Alabama men's team posted a 180-118 victory over Missouri while the women's team defeated the Tigers 212-88.
The Male Honorees
- Tommy Hagar's 22.51 leadoff and Kaique Alves' 23.90 breaststroke split paced the Crimson Tide to victory in the 200-yard medley relay
- UA's 200 medley relay time of 1:26.98 won the event by a second and a half and was the sixth-fastest time nationally this season
- Additionally, Alves won a pair of individual events, highlighted by the 20th-fastest time in country in the 200 freestyle, winning the race by nearly four seconds (1:35.82)
- He followed with a 43.48 in the 100 freestyle before clocking a time of 2:55.72 with the 400 freestyle relay - 10th-best relay time in the country this season
- Hagar concluded his second consecutive meet with multiple individual titles
- He went 1:44.81 in the 200 backstroke to claim the victory by over five seconds, before going 1:49.49 in the 200 individual medley for the top time
- Hagar added a second-place finish to his resume with a 1:47.88 in the 200 butterfly
The Female Honorees
- Mackenzie Brandt put together a dominant performance in the distance events against Missouri
- Swimming a time of 4:49.04, Brandt recorded the 20th-best time in the country in the 500 freestyle as she won the event by 10 seconds
- Prior to that, she recorded a 9:58.10 in the 1000 freestyle, securing the victory by over 16 seconds
- Jada Scott concluded her second collegiate meet with a relay win and a trio of individual victories
- Scott swam the sixth-best 50 backstroke time in the country as the 200 medley relay team clocked the fifth-best performance nationally off a time of 1:38.09
- Her first-place finish in the 100 freestyle ranked 12th nationally (49.05) as she added wins in the 100 backstroke (54.24) and the 200 IM (2:02.69)
