
Alabama set to Compete at Birmingham’s Samford Invitational

The Crimson Tide will compete Friday, down the road, inside the Birmingham CrossPlex
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams get set to make the shortest trip of the indoor season, in Birmingham, for the Samford Invitational.
The Crimson Tide opens the one-day competition inside the Birmingham CrossPlex with the women's weight throw leading off at 10 a.m. Friday morning.
The Meet
- The women will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday (weight throw), followed by the men at 11:30 a.m. (long jump)
- The women are sending 18 to Birmingham, while the men's travel list is 26 strong
- In addition to host Samford, Alabama will face Alcorn State, Chattanooga, Life University, McNeese State, Mercer, New Orleans, Shorter University, South Alabama, Tulane, UAB, UNAT-Alcorn State and UT-Tyler
Last Time Out
- The Crimson Tide tallied 22 top-10 finishes across 11 different events in Music City for the Commodore Challenge
- The men secured four of the top-six spots in the 3,000-meter race with Victor Kiprop (8:01.41), Hillary Cheruiyot (8:02.11) and Jacob Wiggers (8:11.60) going one-two-three
- On the women's side, Amari Brown (7.35) and Milan Fields (7.39) went one-two in the women's 60 meters
- Jekovan Rhetta (6.67) and Josh Thomas (6.73) clocked a second-and-third-place finish in the men's 60 meters
- Cherisse Murray (52-8.75) and Taylor Gorum (50-4) both finished in the top-five in the women's shot put
- The women's pole vaulting trio of Victoria Faber (12-1.5), Holly Foley (11-7.75) and Riley White (11-7.75) all ended with a top-10 mark
Up Next
- Following the Samford Invitational, Alabama will split up on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, competing at both the John Thomas Terrier Classic and Bob Pollock Invitational held in Boston, Mass., and Clemson, S.C., respectively.
