Alabama Men’s Tennis Kicks Off the 2023 Season at Home with a Saturday Double Header

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's tennis team opens the dual match season Saturday, hosting Samford and Mercer in a double header at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. The Crimson Tide will face the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. CT before battling the Bears at 4 p.m. CT.

Admission to all Alabama tennis matches is free. To welcome back the fans, the Tide will be giving out free Chick-Fil-A to the first 100 fans at this weekend's matches.

Looking Back at the Fall

Enzo Aguiard had an impressive fall season, earning an automatic berth to the ITA National Fall Championships after winning the singles draw at the ITA Southern Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
After winning the head-to-head battle 6-3, 6-1 against teammate Roan Jones in the semifinals, Aguiard took a 6-4, 6-1 victory against the No. 5 seed Nemanja Malesevic from Mississippi State in the finals to clinch the regional title
Freshmen Roan Jones started his career with the Tide on a 10-match winning streak before falling to teammate Aguiard in the semifinals of the ITA Southern Regional singles draw
Then-No. 33 doubles duo Filip Planinsek and German Samofalov upset the then-No. 10 Portland doubles team of Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5) in the ITA All-American Championships consolation draw
At the team's home tournament, the Alabama Four-In-The-Fall, Joao Ferreira and Zach Foster competed as a pair and were crowned the champions for their bracket

The Crimson Tide

Alabama returns five players from last year's team in Aguiard, Foster, Planinsek, Samofalov and Ferreira
Additionally, UA added three newcomers to its lineup, welcoming freshmen Roan Jones, Matias Ponce De Leon and Yair Sarouk
Jones and Ponce De Leon made their debut with the Tide during the fall, while Sarouk will dress in crimson and white for the first time this Saturday
Aguiard and Jones are coming into the spring season ranked nationally in singles at 35^th and 96^th, respectively
