Former Alabama players lead teams to victory during Week 3 of NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League finished Week 3 of the regular season on Monday night. Below is a look at some of the highlights by former Crimson Tide Players in the NFL.
Philadelphia wide receiver DeVonta Smith had a dominant performance in the Eagles' 24-8 win over the Washington Commanders. Smith recorded a team-high eight receptions and 169 yards to go with a touchdown. His big day could not have come without stellar play from quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Philadelphia signal-caller finished 22-of-35 for 340 yards and three touchdowns while adding 20 yards on the ground. Hurts is among the league's top performers at his position for the season, ranking third in passing yards and second in rushing yards by a quarterback.
Joining Smith with an stellar effort from the wideout position was Amari Cooper. The Browns' No. 1 receiver tallied seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown in Cleveland's win over the rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. Titans' running back Derrick Henry's pass-catching skills were on display in Tennessee's 24-22 win over Las Vegas. Henry caught five passes for 58 yards while adding 85 yards and a touchdown on 20 rushes.
Safety Eddie Jackson highlighted the former Alabama defensive performances for the week. The Chicago safety totaled eight tackles, one pass defended, one interception and a forced fumble. The interception proved invaluable, as it ended a Texans' offensive drive deep in Bears' territory to end the first half. Jackson's efforts helped his team to a 23-20 victory over Houston.
Linebacker Rashaan Evans paced the Falcons' defensive efforts in Week 3. He led Atlanta with 12 tackles, including one for loss, while defending two passes to help propel the Falcons to a 27-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Fellow linebacker Terrell Lewis put together a solid effort against the Cardinals, helping the Rams prevent any red zone points by Arizona. Lewis contributed to the strong defensive showing, posting two tackles, including one sack, to go with a pair of quarterback hurries.
Jets' defensive lineman Quinnen Williams anchored New York's defensive line once again. Williams matched Lewis' one sack as part of his four total tackles to go with three quarterback hits.
