Alabama Volleyball Heads to Houston for Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup

The Crimson Tide will face Oregon State, Houston and Central Arkansas
HOUSTON, Texas – After an undefeated weekend at home to open the season, Alabama volleyball heads to the Lone Star State for week two action at the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup hosted by the University of Houston. The Crimson Tide will face Oregon State, the tournament host Cougars and Central Arkansas over two days starting Friday.

Scouting Alabama
- Alabama is 3-0 to start the season after sweeping its opponents at last weekend's Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa
- This weekend begins a 10-match road swing for the Tide, who will not compete at Foster Auditorium until Saturday, Sept. 24 against Auburn
- Alabama ended week one with the leading aces-per-set average in the Southeastern Conference (3.00/set), with three players ranked in the top 10 in the category
- The Tide returns 14 players from last year's squad, including seniors Taylor Drapp, Emily Janek, Dru Kuck, Katie Shook and Alyiah Wells and fifth-year senior Abby Marjama
- Newcomers this year include freshman Micah Gryniewicz, an AVCA All-Region honoree from Chandler, Ariz., and sophomore Maddy McCormick, who played at Colorado State last season

- Alabama opened its 2022 season at home hosting the Crimson Tide Invitational, earning wins over McNeese, UTSA and Southern Miss
- The Tide started the weekend with a four-set win over the Cowgirls, the first career win for head coach Rashinda Reed
- A sweep over the Roadrunners set up a weekend finale against the Golden Eagles, who were also 2-0 on the weekend, and Alabama came out ahead in a challenging four-set win that included two frames that went past the 25-point mark
- Freshman Micah Gryniewicz impressed in her Alabama debut, leading the team with 38 kills (3.45/set) over the weekend
- Chaise Campbell tallied a career-best five aces in the win over Southern Miss, pushing her weekend total to a team-leading nine with Abby Marjama close behind at eight
- Campbell was also one of two Tide players to finish the weekend with double-digit blocks, stuffing 11.0 (four solo, seven assists) to finish just two behind Alyiah Wells with 13.0 (three solo, 10 assists)
- Along with 26 kills and six aces, Kendyl Reaugh was also rock-solid on defense with a team-leading 35 digs
Aggressive at the Service Line
- Alabama ended opening weekend as the leading team in the Southeastern Conference in service aces, totaling 33 (3.00/set)
- Ranked by aces-per-set, three Tide players ranked in the top 10 in the SEC: Abby Marjama (1st - 8 - 1.00/set), Chaise Campbell (4th - 9 - 0.82/set) and Kendyl Reaugh (6th - 6 - 0.55/set)
Alabama to Appear Five Times on ESPNÂ Family of Networks
- Alabama is slated to appear five times against SEC opponents on the ESPN family of networks this season
