She joins the Crimson Tide after coaching stops at Rutgers and USRowing
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama head rowing coach Glenn Putyrae announced the addition of Kelly Kraiss to his coaching staff this week.
Kraiss arrives in Tuscaloosa following a successful season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University, guiding the Scarlet Knights' Second Novice 8+ crew a Big 10 championship, the first conference title in any event in school history, and the Novice 8+ to a third-place finish. Overall, the team finished third at the 2022 Big 10 Championships and subsequently qualified for the NCAA Championships, placing 13th.
She also brings a wealth of experience from USRowing, both as head coach of its U18 and U20 Women at its High Performance Camp and as head and assistant coach over two stints overseeing the Southeast Girls portion of its Olympic Development Camp. Additionally, Kraiss worked with the Orlando Area Rowing Society and Atomic Rowing in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
As a rower, she competed at the University of Tennessee from 1999-2003 and was part of the Lady Vols' first nationally-ranked team and its first NCAA Championship appearance in 2003. She was a four-time Academic All-SEC honoree and was named a CRCA National Scholar Athlete in 2001.
