
Alabama Track and Field Closes World Championships Strong

Crimson Tide alumni account for four top-five finishes on the final day of the 4x400-meter relay, including a gold medal from Team USA with Champion Allison on the anchor leg
EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama track and field closed the World Championships, held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., strong, with a quartet of top-five finishes, including gold by Team USA in the 4x400-meter relay with Champion Allison on the anchor leg. Allison ran a 44.43 to close out Team USA's gold-medal time of 2:56.17.
In other Crimson Tide action, Quanesha Burks (USA) matched her season-best leap of 6.88 meters from the first round to finish fourth in the women's long jump, just a centimeter off the bronze medal.
To close the meet, Natassha McDonald led off Canada's 4x400-meter relay, which ran a 3:25.18 to take fourth place, while Jereem Richards led Trinidad and Tobago's 4x400-meter relay to a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:00.03.
Alabama Results at the World Championships
- Champion Allison anchored Team USA's gold-medal 4x400-meter relay which ran a 2:56.17 for the win
- Quanesha Burks (USA) leapt 6.88 meters in the prelims of the women's long jump, advancing to finals where she matched her season-best 6.88m from prelims to finish fourth, a centimeter off the bronze
- Remona Burchell ran the third leg in the prelims of Jamaica's 4x100-meter relay, earning a silver medal after the country took second in finals
- Jereem Richards led Trinidad and Tobago to a spot in the finals of the 4x400-meter relay with a 3:02.75, before returning in finals to lead his squad to a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:00.03
- After anchoring Canada's 4x400-meter relay, which ran a 3:28.49 to qualify for finals, Natassha McDonald led off the Canadian quartet which ran a 3:25.18 to take fourth place
- Kirani James (Grenada) took second in the sixth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries and third overall with a time of 45.29, advancing him to the semifinals, where he won the second heat with a 44.74, earning a spot in the finals, where he took silver with a 44.48
- Allison (USA) won the fifth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 45.56, ranking him seventh coming out of heats and advancing him to the semifinals, where he won the third heat with a time of 44.71, advancing him to the finals, where he ran a 44.77 to take fourth place
- Tamara Clark (USA) won the fourth heat and ranked fifth overall with a 22.27 coming out of prelims of the women's 200 meters, before winning the second semifinal with a 21.95, advancing to the final, where she finished sixth with a time of 22.32
- Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) won the second heat of the men's 200 meters with a 20.35 to advance to the semifinals, before going 19.86 to finish third in the second semifinal to earn a spot in the final, where he ran a 20.08 to take sixth in the world
- Tarsis Orogot, the first Ugandan man in history to run the 200 meters at the World Championships, ran a 20.44 in the fourth heat to advance to the semifinals where he ran a 20.35 to take 13th overall on the night
- Shelby McEwen (USA) tied for ninth in the prelims of the men's high jump with a leap of 2.28 meters, before jumping 2.30 meters in the finals to take fifth place
- Olivia Fotopoulou posted a top-30 finish in the women's 200 meters, posting a 23.25 to take 27th overall
- McDonald (Canada) posted a top-30 finish in the women's 400 meters at the World Championships, taking 28th with a time of 52.41
- Daniel Haugh (USA) finished second in the prelims of the men's hammer throw with a toss of 79.34 meters, advancing him to finals, before taking eighth in finals with a toss of 78.10 meters
- Portious Warren (Trinidad and Tobago) took 25th in the women's shot put with a best toss of 16.65 meters
