
McNairy, McMillan Selected on Day Three of 2022 MLB Draft

The Crimson Tide had four current players selected across the three-day event
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball had four current players taken during the 2022 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, with the event wrapping up on Tuesday afternoon.
The players selected from the 2022 roster included: Connor Prielipp (2nd Round | 48th Overall | Minnesota Twins), Dylan Ray (4th Round | 108th Overall | Arizona Diamondbacks), Jacob McNairy (16th Round | 486th Overall | Seattle Mariners) and Garrett McMillan (19th Round | 564th Overall | Minnesota).
In addition to the current players, a total of five Alabama signees were drafted during the three-day event. Walter Ford was selected in the competitive balance round on Sunday night by the Mariners. Day two saw two signees taken in Jake Madden (4th Round | 118th Overall | Los Angeles Angels) and Nate Ochoa (6th Round | 171 Overall | Washington Nationals). On day three, Brock Blatter (19th Round | 563rd Overall | Chicago Cubs) and Drake Logan (19th Round | 581st Overall | Chicago White Sox) were each drafted.
Alabama in the MLB Draft
- With the two selections on day three of the draft, the Crimson Tide's all-time draft pick total moved to 164 (154 players) since 1966
- Alabama has had at least one player drafted for 44 consecutive years dating back to 1979
- The Tide has had one-or-more players selected in 51 of the 57 MLB Drafts overall

- A total of 94 players have been taken out of The University of Alabama in the last 22 drafts dating back to 2000

All players have remaining eligibility and are able to return to the University to continue their careers at Alabama if they elect to not sign a professional contract.

Connor Prielipp (2nd Round | 48th Overall | Minnesota Twins)
Pitcher, Junior
- The sixth-highest player and third-highest pitcher taken in Alabama baseball history
- Has appeared in seven games – all starts – and owns a 4-1 record across two active seasons at the Capstone
- Holds a 0.96 ERA (3 ER/28.0 IP) with 47 strikeouts compared to seven walks while limiting opposing hitters to a .138 average
- Did not allow a run in his first 26.2 innings of college baseball spanning the 2020 and 2021 campaigns
- Finished his first season at UA with a perfect 0.00 ERA (21.0 IP) and a 3-0 record in four starts
- Struck out 35 compared to six walks and held opposing hitters to an SEC-low .077 average in 2020
- Earned National Freshman Player of the Year accolades from Collegiate Baseball News following the pandemic-shortened campaign
- Also garnered first team All-America and Freshman All-America recognition from CBN
- Became Alabama's 16th first team All-American in program history
- Selected as the "Impact Freshman of the Year" by Perfect Game USA and named D1Baseball.com's "Top Freshman Pitcher" following his rookie stint
- Returned for his sophomore season but was limited due to injuries
Dylan Ray (4th Round | 108th Overall | Arizona Diamondbacks)
Pitcher, Redshirt Freshman
- Played a key role as the Tide's closer during his first season of action in 2022
- Earned Freshman All-America honors and was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team for his standout performance on the mound
- Appeared in 18 games, finishing 1-4 with eight saves and a 4.60 ERA (16 ER/31.1 IP) while limiting opponents to a .198 average last season
- Totaled 49 strikeouts to lead all relievers and rank fifth overall on the UA staff
- Led the Tide in saves and tied for fourth in the SEC in that category
- Worked 2.0-or-more innings in 11 of his 18 outings as a redshirt freshman
- Missed his first season in Tuscaloosa due to injury
Jacob McNairy (16th Round | 486th Overall | Seattle Mariners)
Pitcher, Senior
- Grown into a bigger role each year at the Capstone, earning the Tide's Saturday starter role in 2022
- Owns a 7-3 career record with a 4.81 ERA (70 ER/131.0 IP) and has appeared in 44 games with 15 starts
- Has struck out 103 compared to only 32 walks in four seasons of action
- Led Alabama in wins in 2022 as part of a 6-2 record across his 16 games of action, including 12 starts
- Ranked second on UA for innings pitched (72.0) and totaled 65 strikeouts, good for third on the Tide staff as a senior
- Owned a 2.25 walks per 9.0 innings mark that was sixth in the SEC while allowing a team-low 18 walks to rank ninth in the conference for fewest free passes last season
- Appeared in 15 games with three starts as a junior, holding a 1-1 record across 37.0 innings of work
- Totaled 9.0 relief frames spanning three relief appearances during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign
- Worked in 10 games as a reliver during his freshman season, combining for 13.0 innings
Garrett McMillan (19th Round | 564th Overall | Minnesota Twins)
Pitcher, Junior
- The Crimson Tide's Friday night starter in his first season at the Capstone
- A reliable arm who tossed 5.0-plus innings in all 14 regular-season starts and averaged 6.0 innings per start entering postseason play in 2022
- Finished with a 4-5 record and 4.29 ERA (41 ER/86.0 IP) across 16 starts as a junior
- Struck out 83 while walking 26 and limiting opposing hitters to a .241 average
- Led all Alabama arms and ranked seventh in the SEC for innings pitched last season
- Also paced UA in strikeouts to tie for 14th in the conference
- Struck out 59 in league play to tie for fourth in the SEC while totaling a team-high 57.1 innings, tied for third among conference arms
- Selected as the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week thanks to a standout performance at Ole Miss on April 8 that began the Tide's sweep of the eventual national champions in the three-game series
- Came to Alabama after two successful seasons at Shelton State Community College
