The Crimson Tide had the lead after four with the Aggies scoring 11 over the final five frames for the win
HOOVER, Ala. – Alabama baseball fell to third-ranked Texas A&M, 12-8, on Friday evening at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The loss was the Crimson Tide's first in the SEC Tournament and moves UA's overall record to 31-26 on the season.
Alabama jumped out front with one in the first, but the Aggies evened things up with a run in the top of the second. The Tide regained the lead with three in the home half of the second and two in the fourth to make it a 6-1 ballgame after four full. Texas A&M then scored 11 across the final five frames with Alabama only able to add two for the eventual 12-8 final.
Chris Cortez (6-3) picked up the win with 2.0 innings of relief while Will Johnston earned his fourth save of the season after holding the Tide scoreless over the final 3.0 frames. Brock Guffey (2-4) suffered the loss.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"This was obviously a tough loss tonight. I'm really pleased with the way we came out – we came out hot again. The energy was good. I thought Grayson (Hitt) gave us a really good start, and for as well as we've pitched out of the bullpen this Tournament and a lot of times this year, we weren't very good out of the bullpen today."
How It Happened
- B1 | Andrew Pinckney reached on a fielder's choice with an errant throw allowing him to move all the way to third. Drew Williamson scored Pinckney in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly. (1-0, Alabama)
- T2 | A sacrifice fly from the Aggies tied things up. (1-1)
- B2 | Tommy Seidl and Jim Jarvis singled in consecutive at-bats with an error on Jarvis' hit allowing both runners to move into scoring position. Caden Rose capitalized on the opportunity, sending a ball to the corner in right for a two-run triple. A grounder to third from Pinckney then allowed Rose to cross for the inning's third run. (4-1, Alabama)
- B4 | Rose stayed hot, singling with one down before stealing second. The extra base was key as Pinckney brought him home in that same at-bat with an RBI-single to left. Pinckney proceeded to steal second himself before Dominic Tamez roped a two-out single to left to add one more. (6-1, Alabama)
- T5 | A three-run home run from Dylan Rock cut the deficit to two. (6-4, Alabama)
- T6 | The Aggies tied things up with a bases-loaded two-run single. A&M then loaded the bases up again with two down before a hit-by-pitch pushed across the go-ahead run. (7-6, Texas A&M)
- T7 | A&M rallied for four runs with two outs, using an RBI-single and a three-run homer from Trevor Werner to widen the gap. (11-6, Texas A&M)
- B7 | With the bases loaded, Bryce Eblin doubled off the top of the wall in center to bring in a pair. (11-8, Texas A&M)
- T8 | The Aggies added one more with a two-out double. (12-8, Texas A&M)
