The Tide posted five runs in the fourth to ensure the Sunday victory
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball used a five-run fourth inning against Texas A&M to put the game out of reach early, finishing with an 8-4 victory over the Aggies on Sunday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The series-clinching win moves the Crimson Tide to 17-12 overall and 4-5 in Southeastern Conference play.
Texas A&M got out front first with two runs in the second. Alabama would answer two innings later, plating five in the fourth on five hits and a pair of walks to put the game out of reach early. The Tide added two more in the seventh and one in the eighth while A&M posted single tallies in the eighth and the ninth to finish things at 8-4 in favor of UA.
Bryce Eblin led the Alabama offense in hits with a 4-for-5 showing that included a double, one RBI and a stolen base. Zane Denton was close behind with a 3-for-4 day as the junior doubled, scored a run and contributed a team-high tying two RBI. Also contributing two RBI was William Hamiter, who made his first start since Feb. 26. Hamiter went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and a run to go with his pair of RBI.
Hunter Furtado (3-2) picked up the win on Sunday, tossing 3.0 scoreless frames. The sophomore allowed two hits and a walk while striking out three in his relief outing. Furtado followed Tide starter Grayson Hitt, who tossed 4.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"I'm really glad to get a series win. I just want our kids to play a day at a time, and after losing on Friday, I'm really proud of the way we responded. We have 70 percent of the league schedule left, but when you play at home you need to win the series, so I'm glad that we got a series win. We played pretty good this weekend – certainly made some mistakes, too – but I think we did some good things all three days. We did some good things offensively today and we pitched well all weekend to go with good defense on Friday and Sunday. This was a pretty good weekend for us, and hopefully we can keep it going on Tuesday."
How It Happened
- T2 | Ryan Targac got the Aggies on the board with a two-run home run. (2-0, Texas A&M)
- B4 | Tommy Seidl drew a leadoff walk to start the Tide's five-run rally. A single from Bryce Eblin and a walk to Andrew Pinckney loaded them up for William Hamiter, with the junior delivering a two-run double to center to tie things up. Dominic Tamez then followed with a double of his own to give the Tide the lead. After a groundout, Zane Denton singled through the right side to add one more before Drew Williamson capped the scoring with an RBI-double to left-center. (5-2, Alabama)
- B7 | Pinckney crossed a run on his fielder's choice with one down. The Tide then loaded the bases up before Denton was hit by a pitch to push one more across. (7-2, Alabama)
- T8 | A one-out single followed by a wild pitch on a walk moved a runner to third for A&M. Another wild pitch in the next at-bat brought a run home. (7-3, Alabama)
- B8 | Seidl drew a one-out walk and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. The extra base allowed him to score in that same at-bat when Eblin sent a double to the corner in right. (8-3, Alabama)
- T9 | Dylan Rock hit a solo home run for A&M. (8-4, Alabama)
