Strong Showing at Home for Track and Field
Our track and field team had a strong showing in the Crimson Tide Invitational, its lone home meet of the season, last weekend at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium, including a great performance by Isaac Odugbesan, who broke a 42-year-old school record on the meet's final day in the shot put. Following its big home weekend, the men's team moved up to No. 2 nationally, the highest regular-season ranking in program history. Dan Waters' crew has one more meet coming up before heading into the postseason.
Gymnastics Closes Season in the Top-10
Gymnastics finished seventh at the recent NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, marking our 39th top-10 national finish, with five gymnasts earning All-America honors along the way. With this year's finish, Alabama and Utah remain the only two programs to never finish outside the top 12 since the NCAA began hosting championships in 1982.
Big Meet Coming for Swimming
Good luck to swimmers Morgan Scott, Rhyan White, Derek Maas, Ben Hines and Kailyn Winter who are competing at the USA International Team Trials in Greensboro, N.C., this weekend, where they'll vie for spots on Team USA for upcoming international competitions.
Athletics Raises $80,299 During Bama Blitz
Thank you to the 337 donors who contributed a combined $80,299 during the fifth-annual Bama Blitz on April 19-21. The generosity of these donors exceeded our goal of fully funding an annual athletics scholarship during the two-day online giving event. We'd also like to thank Rochelle and Michael Koslin, whose generous challenge gift was instrumental in our success. If you missed the opportunity to give during Bama Blitz and would like to support student-athlete scholarships, you can do so at crimsontidefoundation.org/ctsf.
University Spotlight
A round of applause for the wheelchair tennis team for winning its sixth consecutive national championship and seventh overall. In addition to winning the team title, Thomas Venos captured the individual championship.
#RollTideFriday
This week, we're sharing a couple photos sent into us from Tide in Texas President John Onufreiczuk. The group, including George Teague and Mike Bernier, visited a local elementary school for a ReadBAMARead reading pep rally.
Remember to use the hashtag #RollTideFriday in your social posts and tweet your photos to me at @Greg_Byrne. We will select two photos to feature in each blog and add even more to our #RollTideFriday Fan Hub. Let's keep these great photos coming!
