The Tide scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to secure the win in game three
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball blanked 10th-ranked Georgia on Sunday for the 3-0 shutout win. The victory in the series finale moves the Crimson Tide to 24-17 overall and 9-9 in Southeastern Conference play.
Sunday's matchup was yet another pitcher's duel, this time favoring the Crimson Tide. Alabama's pitching staff allowed a season-low tying three hits on the way to the shutout victory. The Tide offense was able to do enough, plating one in the fourth on a solo homer from Drew Williamson. Andrew Pinckney followed with a two-run shot in the fifth to add to the Tide advantage on the way to the 3-0 win.
Grayson Hitt (4-1) delivered when the Tide needed it, picking up the win on Sunday. The sophomore recorded 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just three hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts. Brock Guffey and Dylan Ray followed for a combined 3.0 frames, with Ray collecting his fifth save of the season thanks to 2.0 scoreless, hitless innings with two strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"I told the kids before the game – I didn't use the phrase 'must win' – but 'we really need to get a win today.' We weren't going to run from it or hide from it; we can't get swept at home this deep in the season. I thought the kids responded, and we played a really good game today. Obviously, Grayson Hitt was just fabulous, (Brock) Guffey was really sharp in his inning and then (Dylan Ray) was pretty electric to close it out. We also did enough offensively against a very good Georgia team."
