Doubles Play Leads Alabama In SEC Tournament Loss to Tennessee

The 10th-seeded Crimson Tide fell 4-1 to the seventh-seeded Volunteers in the second round of competition

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –– Tenth-seeded Alabama fell Thursday to seventh-seeded Tennessee in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament at Florida's Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.

Doubles action highlighted the day for the Crimson Tide as 77^th-ranked Anna Parkhomenko and Petra Sedlackova defeated 71^st-ranked Rebeka Mertena and Esther Adeshina at No. 1 doubles and Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak topped Daria Kuczer and Elenora Molinaro at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Tennessee rallied to take wins on courts five, six, three and one to clinch the team win. Sedlackova, ranked 75^th, was leading in a three-set battle against 60^th-ranked Tenika McGiffin on court two, as Parkhomenko went into a third set against Esther Adeshina on court four.

The Match

Tennessee won the first doubles match on court two but a 6-2 win by 77^th-ranked Sedlackova and Parkhomenko against 71^st-ranked Mertena and Adeshina evened play for the opening point
Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak fought through a 6-4 decision on court three against Kuczer and Molinaro to win the doubles point for the Crimson Tide
In singles, the Lady Vols took wins on courts five, six, three and one, respectively, to win the match and advance to the quarterfinals
When the match was clinched, 75^th-ranked Sedlackova was leading at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 advantage over 60^th ranked McGiffin
Parkhomenko forced a third set against Adeshina, but was trailing 6-2, 4-6, 5-0 on court six

The NCAA will announce its tournament field on May 2 at 5:30 p.m. CT, while the selection for the individual championships will be on May 3
