Alabama Rowing Takes Five of Six Races Against Tennessee Saturday in Tuscaloosa

The Crimson Tide and Lady Vols met in Tuscaloosa for the first time in program history
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama rowing won five of its six races Saturday morning against Tennessee, the first ever meeting between the Crimson Tide and Lady Vols in Tuscaloosa.
Tennessee won the First Varsity 8+ to start the day but Alabama took the next five races. The Tide's Second Varsity 8+ held off a late sprint from the Lady Vols to win with a four second margin of victory, crossing the line in 7:30.9. The four remaining winning crews each held open water over their competition, including the First Varsity 4+ (8:36.9), Second Varsity 4+ (9:01.7), Third Varsity 8+ (8:04.07) and Fourth Varsity 8+ (8:03.3).
Alabama heads to Las Vegas next weekend for the Pac-12 Invitational, with two days of racing beginning Saturday, April 9.

"[Hosting Tennessee] is something we've been working on for a long time. When I took this job, looking at the schedule we realized that we had to race Tennessee every year and host them every other year because that's what every other sport does. To finally be able to have them after the pandemic and weather issues means a ton. It's great for women's rowing in the SEC, having two strong Division I teams competing head-to-head, and it's great for us to be able to do this in front of our home crowd
"Overall, I thought it was a near perfect day. All the boats had some positives they could take away. The 1V8 didn't perform to their expectations but that's OK because it's a long season and we have some opportunities in front of us to get better."
