
Alabama Falls To Tennessee, Set To Play Volunteers In Second Round Of SEC Tournament

The 10th-seeded Crimson Tide will face the seventh-seeded Volunteers at 5 p.m. CT on Thursday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– The No. 45 Alabama women's tennis team fell, 4-0, to No. 26 Tennessee in the regular season finale on Sunday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. A rematch between the two teams is set for Thursday, April 21 at 5 p.m. CT as the Crimson Tide and Lady Vols meet in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Gainesville, Fla.
Alabama finished the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and a 5-8 record in conference, while Tennessee moved to 13-8 on the season and 7-6 in league play. UA will be the 10th seed in the SEC Tournament as the Volunteers compete as the seventh seed.
The Match
- Tennessee took the first point with doubles victories on courts two and one, respectively
- Anne Marie Hiser and Sydney Orefice were leading 5-4 on court three against Elza Tomase and Kylie Duckworth when the doubles point was clinched
- UT followed with wins on courts six, three and four, respectively, to record three singles victories and clinch the overall match
- Three Tide players captured a first set win as No. 87 Petra Sedlackova, Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak secured a win in the opening round on courts one, two and five, respectively
- Sedlackova opened with a strong 6-3 win on court one against 30th-ranked Rebeka Mertena, but was trailing 3-5 in set two when the match was clinched
- After a long back-and-forth battle, Ola Pitak emerged with a 7-6 victory after fighting through a 9-7 opening set tiebreaker. UT's 52nd- ranked Tenika McGriffin held serve for a 1-0 lead in set two when play concluded.
- Kasia Pitak flew out to an early lead on court five, taking a 6-2 decision against Esther Adeshina, but 6-4 second set win by UT had the match heading into a third set
