Alabama Closes Out the Regular Season at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

The Crimson Tide set to play 36 holes Saturday, 18 Sunday in final tournament of the regular season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team will close out the regular season at the 2022 Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, hosted by Augusta University. The Crimson Tide will tee off the two-day, 54-hole tournament Saturday morning on the par 72, 7,086-yard Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta, Ga.
The 15-team field features eight of the nation's top-50 teams, including No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Texas, No. 13 Notre Dame, No. 24 Illinois, No. 28 South Carolina, No. 35 University of North Florida, No. 37 Alabama and No. 45 Northwestern. Augusta University, UCF, Furman, Georgia State, Mercer, Navy and Chattanooga round out the competing teams.
The tournament consists of 36 holes beginning Saturday, April 2, in a shotgun format, followed by a final 18 holes on Sunday with tee times off holes no. 1 and no. 10. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com throughout tournament play.
The Lineup
- The Crimson Tide's starting five for the regular season finale will include Canon Claycomb, Thomas Ponder, JP Cave, Charlie Nikitas and Jack Goldasich
- Alabama's lineup will be led by Claycomb and Ponder, who have led the Tide in every tournament of the spring campaign
- Both Claycomb (70.61, -0.56) and Ponder (70.77, -0.39) lead the Crimson Tide in stroke average and average vs. par, respectively
- Claycomb captured his first career collegiate medalist honors at the spring season-opening Watersound Invitational with a 54-hole total of 14-under par 202
- Cave has competed in the Tide's lineup in every tournament of the 2021-22 campaign, earning a runner-up finish in the fall at the OFCC Invitational
- Nikitas, who joined the program this spring after transferring as a graduate student from Miami (Ohio), will return to the lineup after posting consecutive rounds of 1-under 71 at last week's Linger Longer Invitational while competing as an individual
- Goldasich will round out the Tide's lineup, competing as part of the starting five for the second consecutive tournament
Tournament Preview
- The 54-hole stroke play tournament will be contested at Forest Hills Golf Club (par 72, 7,086 yards) in Augusta, Ga, just a few miles away from the famed Augusta National course which will be hosting The Masters next weekend
- This year marks the 43rd edition of the event
- Augusta University will serve as host for the two-day event.
Last Time Out
- The Crimson Tide finished in eighth place at the Linger Longer Invitational, totaling a 5-over par 869
- Ponder earned his second top-10 finish of the season and fifth of his career, finishing in ninth at 5-under par 211 (74-68-69) after shooting 7-under over the final 36 holes
- Claycomb continued his streak of five consecutive top-25 finishes with a 1-over par 217 on the par-72, 7,436-yard Great Waters Golf Course
