
Alabama Track & Field Outdoor Opening Weekend Schedule Changes Due to Gainesville Weather

Originally slated to start Thursday, the Crimson Tide now hopes to open season on Friday in Gainesville at the Florida Relays, weather permitting, and at the Stanford Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Originally slated to open its outdoor season Thursday, the Alabama track and field team now hopes to open things up Friday in Gainesville at the Florida Relays, weather permitting, and at the Stanford Invitational.
The Crimson Tide sent a pair of distance runners to compete at the Stanford Invitational Friday night, while most of the team competing this weekend is at the Florida Relays. Originally scheduled to get underway Thursday, weather moved the Florida Relays to Friday.
Alabama will now get things underway at the Florida Relays on Friday with the women's hammer throw at 10Â a.m. CT. The men's discus opens the final day of competition in Gainesville on Saturday at 8Â a.m. CT. Days 2 and 3 of the Florida Relays will be streamed via ESPN+.
In California, the Crimson Tide will compete in the men's 10,000 meters Friday, starting at 7:45 p.m. CT.
In all, a total of 53 student-athletes will be on the road representing Alabama this weekend.
Looking Back at an Outstanding Outdoor Outing in 2021
- The Crimson Tide enjoyed a tremendous outdoor season in 2021, with both the men's and women's teams posting top-15 finishes at the NCAA Championships, with the women taking fourth and the men taking 13th
- The fourth-place finish by the women's team was the fifth podium in program history and third-highest outdoor finish ever
- The 13th-place effort was the fourth-consecutive top-15 finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the men
- A total of 15 men and 11 women earned outdoor All-America honors last season
- At the SEC Championship, the men's team nabbed second-place and women took third
- A total of 18 All-SEC honors were earned by the Crimson Tide
- There were 16 men's marks that ranked in the all-time top-ten at UA, while the women's team tallied 21 all-time top-ten marks
