The Crimson Tide and Blazers will meet for the 81st time in series history on Wednesday evening
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama baseball travels to Birmingham on Wednesday evening to take on UAB at Regions Field. First pitch between the Crimson Tide and Blazers is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT with the game airing live on Conference USA TV.

- Alabama and UAB will meet for the 81st time in series history when the two teams square off on Wednesday night at Regions Field. The Crimson Tide owns the all-time advantage in the series, 55-25, including a 20-10 mark in Birmingham and a 6-2 record at Regions Field.
- The two teams last met on April 27 of last season at Regions with Alabama earning a 9-3 win over UAB. Game two of the home-and-home was canceled later in the year.
- Alabama will send right-hander Ben Hess to mound on Wednesday in Birmingham. The freshman will be making his third start of the season.
- UAB's starter for the midweek matchup is still to be announced.
About Alabama
- Alabama wrapped up last week at 1-3 overall, battling in each game against top-tier competition all the way to the final out. The Crimson Tide first fell at Southern Miss on Wednesday before taking game three of the weekend series with ninth-ranked Florida.
- The Tide suffered a 3-2 loss at Southern Miss on Wednesday evening at Pete Taylor Park.
- Alabama was first to strike with a solo home run from Zane Denton in the first. Southern Miss knotted things up with a solo shot of their own in the bottom of the second and took the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth.
- Both teams would go scoreless until the top of the eighth when Alabama was able to score one. The Tide had the tying and go-ahead runs on base with two down before a check-swing strike-three call ended the rally.
- The Crimson Tide's comeback effort fell short in a 6-4 loss to Florida on Friday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
- Alabama began the ninth trailing by five but would not go quietly. A leadoff single and a hit-by-pitch put two on. After Florida got the first out of the inning, the Tide loaded them up on a single from pinch-hitter Will Hodo.
- With the bases full, Owen Diodati delivered an RBI-single to second with the Gator defender making an error on the play. The miscue allowed everyone to move up 90 feet, including one more run that cut the lead down to three. A hit-by-pitch loaded them up again for Bryce Eblin with a fielder's choice crossing one more. The Tide rally was halted in the next at-bat as a double play ended the game at 6-4.
- Alabama suffered a 13-6 loss to Florida on Saturday evening. The two teams traded runs early with the Gators pulling away for good in the sixth.
- Florida got out to an early lead with Alabama battling back to even things up at five apiece after four. The Gators added two in the fifth and put up a four-spot in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Tide tallied one in seventh with UF adding two in the eighth to make it a 13-6 ballgame, the eventual final.
- Alabama hung around all afternoon in a back-and-forth contest with the Gators, eventually coming out on top 8-7 thanks to Denton's game-winning RBI-single.
- The two teams traded blows all day on Sunday for a third consecutive game. Things were knotted up at four apiece after four full, with the Tide gaining a 5-4 advantage in the fifth thanks to Denton's first RBI-single of the day. The Gators pulled back in front in the eighth with a three-spot, but the Tide was able to cut the lead to one thanks to a solo homer from Denton in the home half.
- Alabama's ninth-inning rally started with a one-out hit-by-pitch for Andrew Pinckney. Eblin followed with a single to put runners on the corners for Jim Jarvis. The Tide shortstop was able to get a bunt down on the third base line that stayed fair and allowed Pinckney to score to tie the ballgame.
- A single from Dominic Tamez then loaded them up for Denton, who was able to single through the right side of a five-man infield to plate the game-winner. Denton led the Tide offense with a 3-for-5 day that included a home run, one run scored and a team-high three RBI.
- Jacob McNairy picked up the win in the series finale against the Gators. The senior contributed 1.2 innings of one-run baseball to keep the Tide within striking distance.
About UAB
- Casey Dunn is now in his 18th season overall and first season at helm of the UAB program. Dunn, who finished as Samford's all-time winningest coach, owned a 541-426 mark across 17 seasons with the Bulldogs. A 1999 graduate of Auburn, Dunn is joined on staff by associate head coach B.J. Green, assistant coach Alan Kunkel and volunteer assistant Frankie Navarrete.
- UAB finished the 2021 campaign at 18-36 overall, including an 11-21 mark in Conference USA play.
- The Blazers were selected to finish 11th overall in Conference USA's preseason poll, as voted on by the league head coaches.
On Deck
Alabama will take to the road this weekend for a three-game series in Starkville against the reigning national champions, the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Game one on Friday is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch followed by a pair of 2 p.m. starts in the final two matchups of the weekend. Games one and two will air on SEC Network+ with the series finale being broadcast nationally on SEC Network.
