ATLANTA, Ga. – Alabama opened the 2022 Women's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a Southeastern Conference and school record in the 200 medley relay on the way to a fourth-place finish at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus.
Rhyan White, Avery Wiseman, Morgan Scott and Kalia Antoniou combined to post a 1:33.29, bettering the SEC and school mark they set at last month's SEC Championships. Scott's time of 22.26 on the butterfly leg was the fastest of the race. Alabama was the only SEC school to finish in the top-10 in the championships' first race.
Later in the evening, Scott, Cora Dupre, Antoniou and Mela Delmenico combined to post a season-best 7:01.05 in the 800 freestyle relay, good for 13th place overall.
At the end of the first day of competition, Alabama was seventh in the team race with 38 points, standing as the top SEC school.
Alabama Head Coach Margo Geer
"Tonight fired us up for the rest of the meet/ Rhyan, Avery, Morgan and Kalia came together for a great 200 medley relay, breaking the SEC and school record, and our 800 free relay posted our best time this season and we moved up from our seeding. We know we're up against elite competition all week and it will be important for us to move through this meet one session at a time. We're looking forward to tomorrow morning with the 500 Free, 200 IM, and 50 Free. "
