Alabama, Auburn Retest for the Third Time this Season in First Round of SEC Tournament

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 11-seed University of Alabama women's basketball team will meet No. 14-seeded Auburn for the third time season, when the two teams compete at the 2022 Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Tournament in the first round Wednesday, March 2 at 1:25 p.m. CT at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The contest will be broadcast on SEC Network, with Eric Frede and Tamika Catchings on the call.
The Crimson Tide is 15-12 this season, including 6-10 in the Southeastern Conference and 0-1 in neutral-site games. The Tide has won four of its last six games, including three of its last four games.
The Crimson Tide will look for its third win over the Tigers this season and its seventh straight against the in-state foe. The Tide hosted the Tigers for its SEC home opener Sunday, Jan. 2, earning a 56-53 win in Coleman Coliseum. Alabama completed the sweep of Auburn on Sunday, Jan. 23, when it rallied a 75-68 triumph in Auburn, Ala.
The Alabama Crimson Tide is coming off a 77-71 win against the Vanderbilt Commodores last Sunday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Brittany Davis led in scoring for the third straight game, while earning her second 32-point performance in the last three games. The senior had electric shooting on 10-of-13 from the field, including 8-of-9 from long range.
No Crimson Tide player has knocked down eight three-point field goals in more than a decade, since Ericka Russell did so at Arkansas Feb. 27, 2011. It hasn't been done at home in nearly three decades, since Betsy Harris did so against Auburn Feb. 16, 1994.
Davis tacked on four rebounds, two steals and two assists in 39 minutes of action.
Since the conference schedule began, Davis has led the team in scoring average (17.5). Megan Abrams, who was named to the 2021-22 SEC Community Service Team last Wednesday, follows with 13.7 points per game, while Mingo-Young adds 11.2 points per game. Davis (7.0) and Mingo-Young (6.7) also lead the team in rebounding average.
Alabama has a 29-42 record in all-time SEC Tournament games, including a 3-3 mark against Auburn.
