
Thomas Ponder in Fourth Overall Heading into Final Round of Cabo Collegiate

Alabama cards 2-under par 282 during Monday’s second round, in 13th overall after 36 holes
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – Alabama junior Thomas Ponder continued to lead the way for the Crimson Tide in Monday's second round of the Cabo Collegiate, carding a 3-under par 67 to move into a tie for fourth overall. As a team, Alabama is in 13th place with an even-par 568 (286-282) heading into Tuesday's final round of play.
Ponder, who carded five birdies and just two bogeys during Monday's second round, is one of seven golfers tied for fourth at 7-under par.
Along with Ponder, junior Canon Claycomb also remained hot as he posted his fifth consecutive round in the 60s to begin the season after shooting a 2-under par 69 Monday, finishing the day in a tie for 12th place.
The three-day, 54-hole event is being held on the par-71, 6,807-yard Cabo del Sol – Cove Club Course in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The Crimson Tide will tee off the final round Tuesday morning.

The Highlights
- Ponder followed his 67 from Sunday with a 68 to position him in a tie for fourth overall with a 36-hole total of 7-under 135 (67-68)
- Ponder's 68 marked his 16th career round in the 60s and eighth of the season
- He sits just three strokes back from leader Chase Sienkiewicz of Arizona (-10)
- Claycomb's back-to-back rounds in the 60s gives him five consecutive sub-70 rounds to start the spring and 12 total in his career
- Charles Nikitas carded a 1-over-par 72, and will enter the final round in 63rd overall with a 148 (76-72)
- Simms Abney posted a 2-over-par 73 and sits in 67th overall (76-73/146), while JP Cave rounds out the Tide's lineup in a tie for 72nd with a 151 (75-76)

The Field
- No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 41 Florida State share the lead heading into the final 18 holes at 18-under par 550.
- No. 7 Arkansas and No. 16 Ole Miss are tied for third at 15-under 553, followed by No. 21 Vanderbilt to round out the top five teams with a 555
- The 15-team tournament field is headlined by six of the top 10 teams in the nation: No. 2 Arizona State, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 8 Stanford and No. 10 Tennessee
- The 78-person individual field features 21 of the nation's top 100 golfers, according to Golfstat.com.
