
Crimson Tide Women’s Golf Takes On Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Golf Channel

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – After logging its fifth fourth place-or-better tournament just five days ago, the University of Alabama women's golf team is back in action at the touted Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Feb. 28-March 2. The tournament, which includes a strong field of 17 teams, is hosted by South Carolina at the Long Cove Club (par 71, 6,281 yards) in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
All three days of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will be broadcast live on Golf Channel, 1:30-4:30 p.m. CT.
The tournament features 10 teams ranked in the Golfstat.com Top 25, including four in the top 10. Those teams are No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Wake Forest, No. 8 Alabama, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 11 Texas, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 17 LSU, No. 18 Auburn, No. 21 Baylor, No. 22 Duke, Furman, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.
Alabama will tee off in the first round Monday, Feb. 28 at 8:40 a.m. CT on hole No. 1, paired with the Texas Longhorns and the Baylor Bears.
The Crimson Tide sports a 26-5 record against the field in tournaments in 2021-22, sweeping Arkansas, Texas, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Furman, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Northwestern and Vanderbilt in meetings so far this season. The Tide holds a 2-1 record against both Duke and LSU, its' split with South Carolina, 1-1, and it trails Wake Forest, 0-2, in tournaments this season.

"After creating some momentum and confidence with our performance during the final two rounds at the Moon Golf Invitational, the team is ready to tackle a great test at the Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island. The Darius Rucker not only provides the challenge of a golf course where you must be focused on every single shot, but a field that is National Championship caliber. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's rounds are televised on Golf Channel, so the tournament will have a National Championship feel to it."
The Lineup
- The Crimson Tide's lineup at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate will feature seniors Polly Mack and Angelica Moresco, junior Sarah Edwards, sophomore Benedetta Moresco and freshman Isabella van der Biest.
- The tournament marks the first time the Tide has used this lineup this season.
- All five players in the lineup have contributed 50.0 percent or more of their rounds to the team score in 2021-22.
- All 15 of Mack's rounds, and all three of van der Biest's rounds, have counted toward the team score.
- A. Moresco has had 13-of-14 rounds counted (.929), B. Moresco has had 13-of-15 rounds counted (.867) and Edwards has had 7-of-12 rounds counted (.583).
- A. Moresco sat out one round at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Oct. 15 because of illness.
- B. Moresco is currently ranked fifth in the nation, according to Golf Week, on a 70.13 stroke average in fall and spring action.
- The sophomore reported scores of par or below in 12 of her 15 rounds.
- She capped the fall season with an individual tournament title at The Ally after breaking the Crimson Tide's program record for lowest first-round total (9-under-par 63), lowest 36-hole total against par (6-under-par 66), and lowest 54-hole total against par (19-under-par 197).
- Mack, who also reported scores of par or below in 12 of her 15 rounds this season, advanced to the final tournament of the 2021 LPGA Q-Series in Mobile, Ala., Dec. 2-5.
- She competed in four rounds, missing the cut to advance to the final eight rounds by just one stroke (288).
- The fifth year tied her second-best tournament total on the season at 4-under-par 212, while also tying her best finish of the season in eighth place, at the Moon Golf Invitational last week.
- Mack finished in the top 15 in every fall tournament, while B. Moresco has posted two top-five finishes on the season.
Tournament Preview
- The Darius Rucker Intercollegiate is hosted annually by South Carolina.
- The tournament will be held at the Long Cove Golf Club, a par-71, 6,281-yard track in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
- The tournament field consist of 17 teams, 10 of which are ranked in the top 25 and four of which are ranked in the top 10, according to Golfstat.com.
- The teams will compete in a 54-hole, stroke-play format.
- The highest ranked individual in the field is No. 3 Ingrid Lindblad, a junior at LSU.
- She has a 70.29 stroke average. She is coming off being named SEC Player of the Week for her win at the Moon Golf Invitational. The HaImstad, Sweden, native went wire-to-wire to complete her sixth collegiate individual title over the Suntree Country Club Classic Course with rounds of 66-67-73 for a 10-under par score of 206.
