
Alabama Falls to No. 19 Arizona at Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

The Crimson Tide is currently trailing Tulane in its second match at the tournament.
Montgomery, Ala. –– The Alabama men's tennis team (3-7) fell, 4-1, to No. 19 Arizona (12-2) Friday in the opening round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. The Crimson Tide currently trails 1-0 against Tulane in a second-round match as the teams completed the doubles portion of their competition.
Alabama played the first part of its second-round match against the Green Wave on Friday. The two teams will compete in singles Saturday at noon CT.
Due to a rain delay, singles matches were played first during the opening round of competition. If the match score was tied, 3-3, then doubles would be played to decide the match. The second round of competition was split between Friday and Saturday with doubles play taking place Friday night and singles action occurring Saturday.
The Match Against Arizona
- Filip Planinsek led the Crimson Tide in the match, capturing a win on court one against Jones Ziverts
- Arizona opened the day with a two-set win on court six before battling to a three-set victory on court three
- Despite a strong drive in the second set, the Wildcats extend their lead to 3-0 with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win on court two
- Planinsek would make the score 3-1 with his come-from-behind 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory at the top of the order
- However, Arizona would clinch the win moments later, with a three-set 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-2 victory at court five
The Opening against Tulane
- Alabama and Tulane concluded the doubles section of their match
- Singles action between the Tide and Green Wave will begin at noon CT
- UA captured the first win in doubles as Planinsek and German Samofalov defeated Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson 6-3
- Tulane responded with a 7-5 victory on court three before going on to clinch the point with a 6-2 decision at court two
