
Angelica Moresco Leads the Crimson Tide Women’s Golf Team after Moon Golf Invitational First Round

Alabama is in 10th place on a 9-over-par 297 after 18 holes in spring opener
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Alabama women's golf team sits in 10th place after 18 holes at the Moon Golf Invitational at the Suntree Country Club (par 72, 6,414 yards) in Melbourne, Fla. The Crimson Tide's lineup recorded a 9-over-par 297 on Sunday, just five shots back from the top five.
Florida State paced the field with a 2-under-par 286. No. 8 Virginia currently trails the Seminoles by one stroke, recording a 1-under-par 287, while No. 7 Florida and tournament hosts Louisville are tied for third place with matching 3-over-par 291 opening rounds.
The 15-team tournament field features nine Golfstat.com Top 25 teams and five Golfstat.com Top 10 teams.
Angelica Moresco fired off an even-par 72 to pace the Crimson Tide's lineup. The graduate student responded to a double bogey on the par-4 No. 1 with three birdies and just one bogey through the next 17 holes. Moresco is currently tied for 11th place on the individual leaderboard, just two strokes back of fifth place.
Polly Mack carded a 1-over-par 73, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 No. 10. She birdied the final hole to move into a tie for 23rd on the individual leaderboard.
Making her Crimson Tide lineup debut, Isabella van der Biest recorded a 3-over-par 75, after leading Alabama on the front nine with a 1-under-par 35. She carded three birdies in her lineup debut, as the freshman is tied for 39th place.
Emilie Øverås was consistent throughout the round, recording a 38 on the front nine and closing with a 39 on the back nine for a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 56th place. Sophomore Benedetta Moresco recovered from a rocky start to her round, shooting 7-over-par on the first nine holes, to finish with an 8-over-par 80 overall for a share of 76th place.
Competing as an individual, Sarah Edwards recorded a 7-over-par 79 and is currently tied for 65th place.

"We clearly are a little rusty. Combine that with a tricky 15 mph wind, it was easy to make a few mistakes in judgement. Despite the score I did see a lot of positives today. We can use this experience and build on it because we are only three or four critical shots throughout the day from being in contention."
