Aguiard led the Crimson Tide over the week, capturing a pair of wins against nationally-ranked singles players
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –– Alabama's Enzo Aguiard was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday, for his performance in the Crimson Tide's road matches against No. 19 Oklahoma and Tulsa. Aguiard, who played at the No. 2 spot in both events, recorded a pair of singles wins against nationally-ranked players in addition to adding a win in doubles play to his season resume.
A rookie from Melbourne, Australia, Aguiard dropped just two games in his opening set against 53rd-ranked Alex Martinez from Oklahoma, before battling through a tiebreaker in his second set to take the match 6-2, 7-6 (5). Two days later, he would defeat 86th-ranked Ezequiel Santalla from Tulsa in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
In doubles play, Aguiard and partner Joao Ferreira posted a dominate performance against Tulsa, dropping just one game in the 6-1 matchup to help the Tide win the doubles point.
Aguiard holds a 6-2 record in singles play this spring and is on a three-match winning streak. He is coming off his second consecutive win with Ferreira, as the two hold a 5-2 dual-match record.
