
Alabama Set to Participate in Elite Field at 2022 Phil Knight Invitational

The Crimson Tide will compete in three-game event over Thanksgiving weekend
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's basketball team will be a part of the eight-team field that will make up the 2022 Phil Knight Invitational, it was announced by ESPN Events Tuesday afternoon. The tournament will be held Thursday, Nov. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 27 at three different venues in Portland, Ore.,
In addition to the Crimson Tide, the field will include UConn, Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland and Villanova.
This marks the first time the Crimson Tide will compete in the event, which is now in its third year and first year using the eight-team format. The tournament is set to honor the NIKE, Inc. co-founder and 2012 Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductee for his 85th birthday as a part of ESPN's Feast Week.
Field Highlights
- Four of the eight teams in the field are currently ranked inside the Associated Press Top 25: Alabama (25), Connecticut (24), Michigan State (19), Villanova (10)
- The accomplished field has a combined 206 NCAA Tournament appearances, 43 Final Fours and 16 NCAA titles
- Arkansas and Florida are previous representatives of the SEC playing in the 2017 PK-80 Invitational, a 16-team version of the event
- This year's tournament will be played at three different locations across the city of Portland, Ore. — Chiles Center at the University of Portland, the Rose Quarter's Moda Center home of the Portland Trailblazers and Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
