Fourth Quarter Push Gives Alabama Women’s Basketball 61-52 Win Over Chattanooga

Brittany Davis leads the Crimson Tide with 14 points, Jada Rice adds 12 along with seven rebounds
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – With the score tied early in the fourth quarter, a surge down the stretch helped propel Alabama to a 61-52 win over Chattanooga Saturday afternoon in Coleman Coliseum.
Alabama (6-2) and Chattanooga (6-4) were tied at 42-42 less than a minute into the fourth quarter before the Crimson Tide added some distance with a 6-0 run. Fighting back and forth with the Mocs in the closing minutes, a three-pointer from Hannah Barber made it a seven-point game with 40 seconds to play and a pair of free throws soon after from JaMya Mingo-Young ultimately brought the game to its final nine-point margin.
Brittany Davis led Alabama with 14 points, going 6-of-15 including a pair of three pointers. The graduate senior now has 10+ points in seven of the Tide's eight games this season. Jada Rice finished with a season high 12 points on six baskets and led the team with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Chattanooga's Yazz Wazeerud-Din led the floor with 21 points, while Addie Porter had 12 points and nine boards in the loss.
Alabama Head Coach Kristy Curry Said
"I'm happy that our team found a way to win today. It was an ugly win, but those still count. I think that we can take a lot away from it and have a growth mindset coming out of today. Our effort defensively was not what it was on Wednesday and we have to ask ourselves how we got to the point that we got to today. But I think again, when it's 18-22 year olds sometimes the consistency can be a challenge and today it wasn't there. We have to look at that and have a growth mindset on how we can be more consistent and defend better. But then again, you look up and realize that you held Chattanooga to 52 points. We have some things that we can control and that's our rest, our recovery and our hydration getting ready for finals."

How It Happened
- Chattanooga scored the first bucket of the game, but Alabama rode a 4-of-4 run to take a 10-7 lead at the first quarter media timeout
- The Crimson Tide extended its lead to 16-11 at the first quarter break, with six different players scoring in the first 10 minutes
- The Mocs took their first lead since the opening basket near the five-minute mark of the second quarter, 21-20, but a Brittany Davis jumper put Alabama in front 22-21 at the media timeout at 4:28
- There were eight lead changes in the third quarter, with the Tide holding onto a slim 42-41 lead at the break
- A UTC free throw at the start of the fourth quarter tied it up at 42-42 but Alabama answered with a 6-0 run to take its largest lead since the 3:17 mark of the first quarter
- The Mocs drew as close as four points before a clutch three-pointer in the corner from Hannah Barber in the final minute put the Tide up by seven
