
Alabama Swimmer Kensey McMahon takes Bronze in the 1,500 Freestyle at the World Championships

McMahon earned her first career medal in international competition at the 2022 FINA World Short Course Championships
MELBOURNE – Alabama swimmer Kensey McMahon earned bronze in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the 2022 FINA World Short Course Championships in Melbourne, Australia Friday.
McMahon swam a 15:49.15 to earn her first podium finish on the international stage in only her second-career world championships appearance. The Crimson Tide graduate student made her international debut at the 2022 World Open Water Championships in June, where she posted a top-10 finish in the 25-kilometer open water race.
McMahon is one of three current UA swimmers competing in Melbourne. She is joined by Victor Johansson (Sweden) and Diana Petkova (Bulgaria) along with former Crimson Tide standouts Anton McKee (Iceland) and Kristian Gkolomeev (Greece).
Alabama at the World Championships
- In addition to Kensey McMahon taking bronze in the 1,500-meter freestyle, other UA swimmers also had strong swims at Worlds
- Diana Petkova reached the semifinals of the 100-meter individual medley (59.45) to take 11th
- UA alums Anton McKee and Kristian Gkolomeev took 10th-place finishes in the 200-meter breaststroke and 50-meter freestyle, respectively
- Petkova and Johansson are set to compete in the 50-meter breaststroke and 800-meter freestyle, respectively, on Saturday
