Alabama Swimmers set to Compete at 2022 FINA World Short Course Championships

Three current UA swimmers and two alumni will compete at the World Championships Monday in Melbourne
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of three current Alabama swimmers and two former standouts are slated to compete at the 2022 FINA World Short Course Championships in Melbourne, starting on Monday.
The Crimson Tide will be represented by Kensey McMahon (USA), Diana Petkova (Bulgaria) and Victor Johansson (Sweden) along with alumni Anton McKee (Iceland) and Kristian Gkolomeev (Greece).
McMahon, McKee, Gkolomeev and Petkova all competed at the 2022 World Championships in June. Johansson will make his short course championships debut after representing Sweden at the 2019 championships in South Korea.
Pekova is set to compete in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter individual medley. Johansson and McMahon will each compete in the 1,500-meter freestyle, while Johansson is also slated for the 800-meter and 400-meter freestyle.
McKee will swim the 50-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke, with Gkolomeev competing in the 50-meter butterfly and the 50-meter freestyle.
Petkova, Johansson, Gkolomeev and McKee each gained international experience at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Gkolomeev earned a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.
