Soccer set to Host Duke in NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals
We've got one final soccer match set to be played in Tuscaloosa this season with our team hosting Duke in the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday at 6 p.m. The crowds have been incredible all season long during this historic run, so let's continue that trend of providing our team with an outstanding homefield advantage. General admission tickets are on sale now for $10 for adults and $5 for youth. See you there!
Football Concludes Regular Season Saturday
Our football team will play its final game of the regular season on Saturday when we take on Auburn in Bryant-Denny Stadium with kick set for 2:30 p.m. CT. We encourage ticketholders to be in their seats early as we honor our senior class with approximately 15:00 remaining on the pregame clock.
Volleyball Wraps up 2022 Season at Home this Week
Our volleyball team will play its final two matches of the season this week, welcoming Tennessee to town. Wednesday's match is set for a 7 p.m. CT start while Friday's will begin at 5 p.m. CT. Prior to Friday's match, we will recognize our senior class.
Cross Country Notches Historic Finish
Congratulations to our women's cross country team for making its first podium finish at the NCAA Championships, taking third place Saturday morning in Stillwater, Okla., and bringing a trophy back to Tuscaloosa. Our bronze finish came after winning our first SEC team title since 1987 and first NCAA Regional Championship since 1986 earlier this season. In addition, this season marked just the third time that our men and women have advanced to the NCAA Championships in the same season and the first time both teams have advanced to nationals in back-to-back years. Our men also won the SEC team title, marking the first time both the men and women have won SEC team championships in the same season, and the first time that any school outside of Arkansas has accomplished that feat since 1990. It has been a very good year for Coach Dan Waters and his crew, and we're very proud of all they've accomplished.
Cross Country Earns Postseason Honors
An amazing cross country season has brought numerous honors to the Crimson Tide. Victor Kiprop was voted the SEC Runner of the Year, Hilda Olemomoi earned SEC Freshman of the Year accolades and Dan Waters became the first UA coach to be named both the men's and women's SEC Cross Country Coach of the Year. We also saw eight student-athletes earn nine All-SEC honors and eight named NCAA All-South Region in addition to Coach Waters earning NCAA South Region Coach of the Year recognition. Then, following last weekend's NCAA Championships, four of our women – Hilda, Flomena Asekol, Mercy Chelangat and Amaris Tyynismaa – earned All-America recognition, setting a new program record for honors in a season. Mercy also became the first UA runner to earn a trio of cross country All-America accolades in a career.
SEC Nation comes to Tuscaloosa
SEC Nation, Marty & McGee and The Paul Finebaum Show will broadcast live from Tuscaloosa this week ahead of Saturday's Iron Bowl matchup on the gridiron. The lineup begins with The Paul Finebaum Show Friday from 2-6 p.m. CT. Marty & McGee get things started on Saturday morning from 8-9 a.m. CT and SEC Nation follows from 9-11 a.m. CT. The set will be in its usual location on campus in front of Wade Hall (corner of University Blvd. and 6th Ave.). Fans are welcome to stop by to attend the shows! Â
Swimming and Diving See Records Tumble
Proud of the job that Margo Geer and her squads did last week at the Art Adamson Invitational and WVU Invite. Our swimmers broke four different records during the three-day Adamson Invitational, while our divers won three of six events at the WVU event. Victor Johansson shattered both the 500 and 1,650 freestyle records that stood for more than a decade. Rhyan White bettered her own school standard in the 200 butterfly by about a second. Charlie Hawke had an amazing run on Thursday, when he bettered the school record in the 200 freestyle an amazing three times, becoming the first UA swimmer under 1:32.0 in the event. As a team, our women won the Adamson, while the men were second.
Basketball Feast Week
Lots of opportunities to catch our basketball teams in action this week as both teams are competing in multiteam tournaments. Our women's team opened up the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship in the Bahamas Monday coming up just short against No. 17 Utah, 93-86. Next up is Wake Forest on Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT before returning home for a matchup with Gardner-Webb on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
Our men's basketball team heads west to Portland for the Phil Knight Invitational, where it will play three games, beginning with Michigan State on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. CT. The tournament continues Friday with the game against Oregon or UConn and the final of three on Sunday. Game times on Friday and Sunday are to be announced.
University Spotlight
A job well done by our students at The University of Alabama for, once again, emerging victorious in Beat Auburn Beat Hunger. A total of 565,983 pounds of food was raised, breaking the previous record of 319,437 pounds set last year. Together, the two schools raised over 1 million pounds of food, which will help so many families across the state.
