
Alabama’s Jahvon Quinerly Named to Bob Cousy Award Watch List

Annual award recognizes the top point guard in all of college basketball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's basketball guard Jahvon Quinerly is one of 20 candidates named to the 2023 Bob Cousy Award Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Monday morning. The award recognizes the top point guard in Division I men's college basketball.
Cousy played for Holy Cross from 1946-50, winning a NCAA Championship in 1947 and was named a consensus First-Team All-American in 1950. His success continued at the professional level as a six-time NBA Champion (1957, '59-63), NBA Most Valuable Player (1957) and 13-time NBA All-Star (1951-63). He was named a member of the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996 and was listed as one of the league's 75 greatest players in 2021.

- Named a Preseason Second Team All-SEC selection
- Alabama's returning leading scorer averaged 13.8 points per game last season
- Ranked eighth in the SEC last season in assists per game (4.2) and 12th in scoring
- Had 23 double-digit scoring games, including five 20-point contests, and led the Tide with 11 games with five or more assists
- Named the 2021 SEC Most Outstanding Player and the 2021 SEC All-Tournament Team
- Quinerly is one of three SEC point guards to be named to the Bob Cousy Watch List
- Played the first three minutes of the Tide's NCAA Tournament contest vs. Notre Dame (3/18) before leaving with a serious knee injury
In late January, the watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee and the winner will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the four members of the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Bob Cousy Award include Collin Gillespie, Villanova (2022), Ayo Dosunmu, Illinois (2021), Ja Morant, Murray State (2019), Jalen Brunson, Villanova (2018), Trey Burke, Michigan (2013), Kendall Marshall, North Carolina (2012), Kemba Walker, Connecticut (2011) and Jameer Nelson, St. Joseph's (2004).
