Alabama Women’s Tennis Records Six Wins On Second Day Of ITA Southern Regional Championships

The Crimson Tide captured a total of six wins in competition Friday in Baton Rouge, La.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team completed day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southern Regional Championships Thursday at the LSU Tennis Complex and LSU UREC Tennis Courts.
Main Draw
Singles
- The Tide captured three wins on Friday in the singles main draw
- Loudmilla Bencheikh earned the Tide's first win of the day, going 6-3, 7-6 (5) against Tulane's Jiayun Zhu
- In her first match, Petra Sedlackova won in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 over McNeese State's Emma Lou Pommiers
- Anna Parkhomenko batted for a hard-fought win over New Orleans' Diane Bredberg Canizares
- Parkhomenko took an opening set win but fell in the second set. She would come back to win the match at 7-6 (2), 1-6, 6-3.
Doubles
- Anna Parkhomenko and Petra Sedlackova recorded an 8-3 win against their first opponent, defeating Adelaie Lavery and Jiayun Zhu of Tulane in the round of 32
- Doubles duo and sisters Ola and Kasia Pitak advanced to the round of 16 after Mississippi State's Maddie Bemisderfer and Alessia Tagliente retired due to an injury
- Rebeka Kern and Sydney Orefice, who opened in the round of 64, took a win over LA Tech's Valentina Vasquez and Olga Bienzobas for an 8-6 score
- The UA doubles duo Kern and Orefice would fall to Kaitlyn Carnicella and Adeline Flach of Auburn 8-4 in the second round of matches

- Bencheikh, Parkhomenko and Sedlackova will continue action Saturday in the singles main draw
Next In Doubles
- Kasia and Ola Pitak will play Luminita Tutunaru and Elysia Pool from South Alabama on Saturday
- Anna Parkhomenko and Petra Sedlackova are set to complete against Jacksonville State's Irene Artigas and Polina Ramenskaja on Saturday
