Indianapolis Bound
We are thrilled to be headed to Indianapolis later this week to compete in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, facing a familiar foe in Georgia. Since the CFP's inception in 2015, Alabama has advanced to six championships, winning the title three times. Safe travels to those of you joining us in what looks to be a chilly trip to Indy, and Roll Tide!
Thank you to our Supporters
As we turn the page on a New Year, we thank those of you who supported Alabama Athletics through contributions to the Crimson Tide Foundation in 2021. Your generosity helps ensure that our student-athletes, coaches and staff have the resources necessary to continue our proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence. We are grateful for your loyalty and support!
Full Slate of SEC Matchups
In addition to football's game against Georgia, we have several upcoming conference matchups in basketball and swimming and diving. Our diving team was in action today at Tennessee, while the rest of the squad will gear up to head to Georgia for a meet on Saturday. Men's basketball heads to Florida to take on the Gators tomorrow evening and will remain on the road next weekend, facing the Missouri Tigers in Columbia on Saturday. Coming off a win over Auburn, our women's basketball team hosts Mississippi State on Thursday before traveling to Georgia for a Sunday tip with the Lady Bulldogs in Athens.
Gymnastics Season Opener Approaching
We will have another sport's season begin next weekend as gymnastics rings in a new year at Oklahoma. The meet is set for an 11:45 a.m. CT start on Sunday and will air on ESPN2.
Classroom Champions
In addition to our continued athletic success, the fall semester also saw our student-athletes make even greater strides in the classroom. As a department, we averaged a 3.46 grade point average, with all our teams earning over a 2.75, 16 posting better than a 3.15 and a dozen averaging a 3.5 or better last semester. Men's tennis led the way with a 3.83 team GPA, followed by women's golf with a 3.76. Individually, more than 360 of our athletes earned above a 3.0 GPA in the fall, with 250 earning a 3.5-or-higher GPA and an incredible 100-plus posting a perfect 4.0.
University Spotlight
A special Christmas gift was presented to local elementary school student, Rachel Williams, by five recent mechanical engineering graduates. Rachel's Lift, a mechanical wheelchair lift, was the group's senior design project that was finished up just in time for the holidays. Incredible story!
#RollTideFriday
A rare snowfall in Tuscaloosa last night is the inspiration for this week's #RollTideFriday photos. First, we have Alex Grodner checking in from Breckenridge, Colorado, and secondly, George Dockery in Yosemite National Park.
