
Alabama Divers Open 2022 at the Tennessee Diving Invitational Monday

The Crimson Tide opens the new year in Knoxville with a four-day event at the site of the 2022 SEC Championships
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After closing out 2021 collegiate competition for the Alabama swimming and diving men and women with the Auburn Diving Invitational in mid-December, the Crimson Tide diving corps returns to action Jan. 3-6 with the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn.
Competing for the Tide men will be Mohamed Farouk, Kevin Li and Hunter Jaynes, while the UA women's lineup will include Halia Bower, Natalie Donkle, Tanesha Lucoe and Courtney Russo.
In addition to Alabama and the homestanding Volunteers, this week's field includes Auburn, Georgia, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
The Tennessee Invitational Format
- In additional to the traditional 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events and the platform, the meet will also feature a new team-style event
- For the team events, three divers from each squad will perform a combined six dives (two dives each) to make up a team score
- Teams must have at least one dive from the 1-meter, 3-meter and the platform
- The top-12 performers from the springboard events will advance to the finals.Â
Tennessee Invitational Schedule
- Competition will begin each day at 11 a.m. CT
- Monday's events start with the women's 1-meter springboard prelims and finals followed by the men's team event at 3 p.m. CT
- Tuesday's events include the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter prelims and finals
- Wednesday includes the men's 3-meter prelims and finals, the women's platform and the women's team event, which gets underway at 3 p.m. CT
- The meet concludes Thursday with the men's platform event
Crimson Tide Divers
- Alabama's women are led off the 1-meter springboard (283.43) and platform (276.00) by All-American and two-time Southeastern Conference medalist Tanesha Lucoe
- Halia Bower leads the Crimson Tide women off the 3-meter board (318.75)
- Lucoe has qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships off the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, while Bower has qualified off the 1-meter and 3-meter
- The men are led by rookie Mohamed Farouk, who competed at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in mid-December, finaling off the platform and taking ninth overall, off the 1-meter (376.50) and platform (359.20), both at the Tennessee Invitational in November
- All-American Kevin Li leads the Tide off the 3-meter (363.90) at the Auburn Diving Invitational in December
- Farouk has already qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships off the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform, while Li and Hunter Jaynes have qualified off the 1-meter and 3-meter boards
