Women’s 200 Free Relay Earns Silver Medal to Highlight Night Five of SEC Championships

The medal marked the third of four UA women’s relay teams to earn a top-three finish this week
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the third time this week, the Alabama women's swimming and diving relay team earned a podium finish as Cadence Vincent, Emily Jones, Tessa Giele and Charlotte Rosendale captured a silver medal Friday night.
The women's relay team recorded a season-best 1:26.39 to finish second in the event. Rosendale highlighted the race, securing the event's fastest final-leg split (21.23) to move the Tide from third to second place.
The silver medal joined a trio of podium finishes for the Crimson Tide relays as the women's 200 medley (silver) and 400 medley (bronze) relay teams also earned a spot in the top three.
Highlights
- After entering the meet with a 1:55.71, Steijn Louter dropped 2.63 seconds off his 200 breast time (1:53.08) to move to fifth all-time in Alabama history
- Mark Underwood used a career-best 1:53.97 to win the 200 breast C final and move to seventh all-time in program history as Noah Saylor recorded a career-best 1:54.32 to move to ninth
- Dropping 0.20 in the 50 free, Sean Niewold won the consolation final and moved to third all-time in program history
- Joao Pierre de Gruttola Campos improved his 500 free entry time by 2.32 seconds to climb to No. 6 all-time in program history
- The men's 200 free relay of Sean Niewold, Tim Korstanje, Jonny Hoole and Zarek Wilson captured a season-best 1:16.29
- Leonardo Alcantara swam a career-best 4:10.45 to better his No. 2 all-time 500 free ranking on Alabama's all-time top 10 list
- Charlotte Rosendale bettered her career-best performance in the 50 freestyle with a 22.06
- After five nights of competition, the UA women's team is in sixth place with 532.5 points, while the men's team is in seventh with 505.5 points

- Alabama will close the SEC Championships on Saturday as the Crimson Tide competes in the 200 IM, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, women's platform and 400 medley relay (finals only)
- Swimming prelims will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT, while diving prelims will start at 11 a.m.
- Finals for both swimming and diving will start at 4:30 p.m.
