
Alabama Women’s Tennis Alumnae Guarachi, Routliffe Continue Impressive Run at US Open

Routliffe will compete in the third round of competition after 11:30 a.m. CT and Guarachi will compete after 2 p.m. CT
NEW YORK – Alabama women's tennis alumnae Erin Routliffe and Alexa Guarachi have had an impressive showing at the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. Both athletes have advanced to the top 16 and will compete in a Round Three match on Monday.
Routliffe's Round Three match comes in just her second appearance at the US Open. Routliffe and partner Leylah Fernandez captured a 6-4, 6-2 win in the opening round against Christina McHale and Giuliana Olmos before going 6-2, 6-2 against Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery in the second round. The pair will face Monica Niculescu and Elena-Gabriela Ruse for a chance to play in the quarterfinals.
Guarachi captured a 6-3, 6-4 win with partner Desirae Krawczyk over Anna Danilina and Yaroslava Shvedova in the first round. The pair topped Danka Kovinic and Rebecca Peterson 6-1, 6-3 in Round Two to earn their spot in the top 16.
Guarachi is also making her first mixed doubles appearance, playing with partner Neal Skupski. The duo battled for a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (4) win over Samantha Stosur and Bruno Soares in the first round before taking an 6-7 (4), 6-1, 1-0 (8) win over Galina Voskoboeva and Nikola Cacic in match two. Guarachi and Skupski will compete in the mix doubles quarterfinals.
Routliffe will compete in the third round of doubles action after 11:30 a.m. CT, while Guarachi plays around 2 p.m. CT Monday.
