Alabama Swimming and Diving Opens 2021-22 Season Friday at Home Against Delta State

The Crimson Tide opens its season against the Statesmen for the ninth time over the past decade
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the 2021-22 season Friday at 2:30 p.m. CT against perennial foe, Delta State, at the Don Gambril Olympic Pool in the Alabama Aquatic Center.
The Crimson Tide returns three Olympians, three NCAA Champions and 15 All-Americans to this year's squad, while adding 17 newcomers.
Head Coach Margo Geer Said
"We are looking forward to getting the season underway this Friday. We have been pushing hard in training and now is a great time to step up, compete and evaluate where we are as a team. We're especially excited to compete at home and welcome our fans back to the aquatic center."
Meet Day
- The meet starts at 2:30 p.m. CT and will be held in the Alabama Aquatic Center located at the corner of Hackberry Lane and Bryant Drive
- The fan entrance to the aquatics center is located on Bryant Drive, across the street from Regions Bank
- Doors open for fans at 1 p.m. CT and admission is free
- Masks are required to be worn upon entrance to the aquatic center

vs. Delta State
- Outside of last year's COVID-disrupted schedule, the Crimson Tide opened its swimming and diving season with the Statesmen every year since 2012-13
- Seven of the last eight UA-DSU meetings came in September
- Prior to last season, Alabama-Delta State was the first collegiate dual meet in the country for several years in a row
- While this year's UA-DSU competition remains one of the first dual meets of the season, it will take place on the second week of collegiate competition
- The two teams last met on Sept. 13, 2019 in Cleveland, Miss., with the Tide women winning 204-91 and the men downing the Statesmen 186-109
- Alabama and Delta State last met in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 14 to open the 2018 season with the UA men coming out on top 213-82 and the women posting a 206-88 victory
