Football Moves to 3-0 with Win in Gainesville
Football earned its 32nd straight victory over an SEC Eastern Division opponent Saturday with the win at Florida. The team was resilient in a tough environment to keep the streak alive and move to 3-0 on the season and winners of its last 17 games. We look forward to a night game in Bryant-Denny Stadium this weekend with the 6:30 p.m. CT kick and hope to see many of you there!
Arrive Early and Download Before you Go
We, like many others around the country, did not have everything go as planned for the first game and know some of you had issues entering the stadium. Over the course of the last nine days, we have been working diligently on a plan to address the backup at the gates. You'll be hearing and seeing a lot this week on the radio and on our social channels on mobile ticketing, how to download and what to look for as you're approaching Bryant-Denny Stadium. You'll also see a lot more people around to assist at the gates, including many of our athletics staff, who we've engaged to help make the entry process a smooth one.
One of the other areas we built up over the last week was our mobile ticketing page. There is a visual step-by-step guide that takes you through the downloading process, should you need it. Once downloaded, be sure to add to your Apple Wallet for iPhone users or Google Pay app for those with an Android. This also shows how to go about transferring your mobile tickets and parking.
We encourage all ticketholders to arrive early as well to make sure you're in your seats for kickoff. Gates open 2.5 hours prior to game time, so please plan accordingly. Our videoboards will continue to show games from out of town, and concessions will be open. Weather is looking great for a football Saturday in Tuscaloosa!
Winning Weekend in Tuscaloosa
The Tide had a successful weekend all around in its home venues with wins in volleyball, men's tennis and soccer. Volleyball went 3-0 at the Bama Bash against Houston, Western Carolina and Tennessee Tech. Men's tennis picked up a combined 24 victories versus LSU, Memphis and Princeton, and soccer capped off the weekend with a 3-0 shutout over Utah Valley.
Cross Country Men Win UNA Showcase
Congrats to our men's cross country team for getting the early morning win at the North Alabama Showcase last Friday. In his first outing for the Crimson Tide, freshman Victor Kiprop led a 1-2-3 Alabama sweep of the individual race to spearhead a dominant team win. Our women's team was led to a third-place finish by Tide rookie Flomena Asekol, who finished second in the individual race.
Swimming and Diving Opens Season Friday
Our swimming and diving team opens the 2021-22 season this Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Alabama Aquatic Center, facing Delta State, a familiar early opponent. This season marks the ninth time in the past decade that we've started the season with DSU, with the only miss coming last season due to the COVID-19 disruption. It will be Margo Geer's first meet as our head coach, and Rhyan White's first meet since representing Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics this summer and coming back with a silver medal. If you're in town on Friday, we hope you'll join us in cheering on the latest edition of the Crimson Tide.
Fall Season Underway this week for Women's Tennis
Our women's tennis team will also get the fall portion of its season started this weekend, participating in the Ole Miss Invite. In addition to the host Rebels, the tournament will feature competitors from Georgia and Kansas State.
Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund
One month into the fall semester and our student-athletes are hard at work pursuing excellence in competition and in the classroom. You can support their educational goals by contributing to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF). The CTSF provides annual scholarship support for our student-athletes, offsetting the costs of tuition, educational fees, books, and room and board. Donors to the CTSF earn three Tide Totals points per $100 donated.
University Spotlight
Alabama enrolled its largest freshman class in the University's history this year at 7,593 to bring overall fall enrollment to 38,320. Included in the 2021 freshman class are 281 National Merit Scholars, which make up nearly 30 percent of the UA-record 940 undergraduate National Merit Scholars.
