2021-22 Season Underway
It's always an exciting time when we start up a new season, and we were thrilled to begin the 2021-22 year with a win thanks to a 4-0 victory from soccer last Thursday. If you missed that one, there are plenty of opportunities coming up to catch Coach Hart's squad at home as they host Lamar on Friday, Southern Miss on Sunday and Samford a week from Thursday. Our volleyball team will get its season underway later this week as well at the Marshall Invitational where it will take on Austin Peay, Miami (Ohio) and the host Herd.

Mac Jones Named Academic All-American of the Year
As we started the fall semester last week, Mac Jones was named the Academic All-American of the Year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), an honor that recognizes Mac as the nation's top scholar-athlete regardless of sport or gender. With Mac's honor, Alabama now has the most honors in the award's history, with four. Mac joins Brooke Pancake (women's golf/2012), Barrett Jones (football/2013) and Kim Jacob (gymnastics/2014). We're incredibly proud of all Mac accomplished wearing the crimson and white of Alabama, on the field, in the classroom and in the community.Â
Alabama Enjoys Tremendous Year in the Classroom
Mac being announced as the Academic All-American of the Year capped an extraordinary year both athletically and academically. In addition to being named the nation's top scholar-athlete, he was one of a school-record 18 Academic All-Americans, including an NCAA Division I best 13 first-team honorees. With this year's honors, Alabama is the only school to post double digits when it come to the Academic All-America program each of the last eight years. Our student-athletes also combined for a 3.3 cumulative grade point average during the 2020-21 academic year, with nearly 400 earning a place on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. The Crimson Tide produced more than 150 degrees, including 40-plus master's degrees. These are just a few of the many, many academic honors that Crimson Tide student-athletes earned last year as they extended our legacy of academic excellence. Â
Still Time to Join Event Staff Team
Our event management department is looking to add to its event staff team for the 2021 football season. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ticket scanners, door attendants, ushers and guest services. Positions are paid an hourly wage with shifts ranging from 4-14 hours. Those interested can apply here.
September 1 Tide Totals Deadline
The September 1 Tide Totals priority points calculation deadline is quickly approaching. You can support the education of our student-athletes while earning Tide Totals priority points by donating to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF). The CTSF provides annual scholarship support for our student-athletes, offsetting the costs of tuition, educational fees, books, and room and board. Donors to the CTSF earn three Tide Totals points per $100 donated.
Crimson Tide Olympic Contingent Wins Five Medals
Watching the Olympics is something I always look forward to, and it's even better when you see so many familiar faces competing on the world stage. In all, we had 22 current and former student-athletes representing 13 different countries in Tokyo win five medals. Congratulations to Remona Burchell (gold), Haylie McCleney (silver), David Robertson (silver), Rhyan White (silver) and Kirani James (bronze) for earning a spot on the podium, and a round of applause to our entire Alabama contingent!
University Spotlight
And speaking of Alabama contingent, there are six current and 12 former adapted athletics competing in the Paralympic Games, which begin tomorrow in Tokyo. UA will be represented in wheelchair basketball, handcycling and wheelchair tennis. Best of luck to all!
#RollTideFriday
We're starting off this season's #RollTideFriday photos with a couple from stateside. First, we have Grace Mundy celebrating her birthday at Disney World. Secondly, we have Tress Fausset proudly waving his Alabama flag in Indiana.
