
Alabama Women’s Tennis Places Eight on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

The Crimson Tide was also named to the ITA All-Academic Team
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the fifth-consecutive year, the Alabama women's tennis team had seven or more athletes earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced this week. The Crimson Tide placed eight athletes on this year's list, topping the seven honorees from the four prior seasons.
Loudmilla Bencheikh, Alba Cortina Pou, Sasha Gorchanyuk, Anne Marie Hiser, Moka Ito, Vanesa Nikolovova, Sydney Orefice and Sydney Riley earned the honor for Alabama.
Cortina Pou was named a scholar-athlete by the ITA for the fourth time, while Ito earned her third honor and Gorchanyuk and Riley earned their second. Freshmen Bencheikh, Hiser, Nikolovova and Orefice made their debut as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: Be a varsity letter winner; have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
