Coach Saban Contract Extension
We are thrilled to announce another contract extension with Coach Saban, which keeps him at the helm of the football program through at least the 2028 season. The accomplishments on and off the field are countless, and he has done an incredible job creating a championship culture in all aspects. What he and Ms. Terry mean to the program, this department, the University, the Tuscaloosa community and the state of Alabama goes far beyond football, and we are so thankful to have them around for many years to come.
18 Reach National Postseason for the Crimson Tide
With rowing, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field competing in NCAA postseason competition over the last two weeks, we have seen 18 of our 21 teams reach the national postseason this year, with 17 competing for at NCAAs and of course football winning the College Football Playoff in January. It's been an amazing year for the Crimson Tide, and we can't wait to cheer on softball in OKC and track and field in Eugene, Ore., as they compete for championships this week.
Alabama Ranked Seventh in Initial Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup Standings
One of our goals is to have a regular presence in the top 10 of the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup standings, and we are thrilled to be sitting at No. 7 in this season's initial release. Accounted in the standings thus far are fall and winter sports, so we are in a great position to close out the season with our highest finish in program history!
Semifinal Sunday Continues on Monday for Softball
Lots and lots of rain in Oklahoma City pushed Sunday's If Necessary games over to today, so we will be back in action at 6 p.m. CT for a spot in the Women's College World Series Championship Series. We've had incredible support here for our team and appreciate so many Tide fans coming out to cheer on our team as well as those of you watching from afar!
More "of the Year" Awards for the Crimson Tide
Before traveling to Eugene, Ore., on Sunday for this week's NCAA Outdoor Championships, Alabama track and field collected a number of year-end honors both at the conference and regional level. Tamara Clark was named the SEC Women's Runner of the Year, while Amaris Tyynismaa was voted the SEC Women's Newcomer Runner of the Year and Eliud Kipsang was recognized as the SEC Male Freshman Runner of the Year. The USTFCCCA also announced its regional honors, with Clark and Robert Dunning sweeping the men's and women's South Region Runner of the Year honors. Head coach Dan Waters was voted the South Region Men's Head Coach of the Year and Blaine Wiley was named the South Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. Congrats on these latest honors and good luck this week!
Alabama and USA Swimming Olympic Team Trials
While softball and track and field are closing out the NCAA season this week in Oklahoma City and Eugene, Ore., respectively, a total of 16 current Crimson Tide swimmers are in the midst of the USA Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb. This year's trials have been split into two "Waves" this time around, with Wave I being held last weekend and Wave II starting on June 13. Good luck to those wearing the crimson and white of Alabama as they look to earn a spot on Team USA and have the chance to wear the red, white and blue in Tokyo later this summer.
Baseball Closes out Season at NCAA Regional
We are so proud of the progress our baseball team has made under Coach Brad Bohannon, making its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014. The Tide's 32 wins this season are also the most since we had 33 in 2016. Thank you to our upperclassmen for believing and laying the foundation for the future success of this program. We look forward to seeing our underclassmen and newcomers take the reins and continue building for next season!
Rowing Coaches Recognized by CRCA
Congratulations to our rowing coaches for well-deserved honors as Glenn Putyrae was named 2021 Regional Coach of the Year, while the staff was named 2021 Regional Staff of the Year by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. They have done a tremendous job since taking over, leading our team to its first appearance in program history in the NCAA championships while also earning the program's first top-10 ranking!
Dr. Robinson Honored by SEC as part of Medical Guidance Task Force
Last week, the SEC named its Medical Guidance Task Force members recipients of the Michael L. Slive Distinguished Service Award, which includes our very own Dr. Robinson. He and the rest of the group spent countless hours making sure we were prepared to safely return to practice and competition this season. Each one was instrumental in navigating us through these unchartered waters, and we are so thankful to have him leading our sports medicine efforts.
Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund
The end of the fiscal year is just around the corner. If you have not yet made a philanthropic contribution to Alabama Athletics this year, consider donating to the Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund (CTSF). The CTSF is the annual scholarship fund for Alabama Athletics, providing scholarship support for the Crimson Tide's 600+ student-athletes. Donors to the CTSF earn three Tide Totals priority points per $100 donated. To learn more or to donate, visit crimsontidefoundation.org/ctsf.
University Spotlight
There continue to be so many wonderful stories about our faculty, staff and students from the UA News Center, and this is another great example. UA sophomore, and 2021 Miss Connecticut Collegiate America, Noelia Voigt was asked to advocate for antibullying, and not only is she advocating, but she has also created two incredible resources. Her book, "Maddie the BRAVE," is written for elementary-aged children and features a confident main character, who shares positive self-affirmations. To go along with that, she also created an antibullying app called Bullying Buddy. Great job, Noelia!
