OMAHA, Neb. – Alabama is sending 16 current swimmers to the United States Swimming Olympic Team Trials, with rising sophomores Trey Sheils and Gracie Felner kicking off the action this weekend.
It is a new look for the U.S. Olympic Trials, with the road to Tokyo split into two different "Waves" in 2021. Wave I, which USA Swimming has dubbed "wildcard weekend," runs from June 4-7, with swimmers able to earn a berth into Wave II, which will be held June 13-20 and will produce the USA Olympic Team.
In addition to Felner, who will swim the 100-meter freestyle on Friday and the 200m freestyle on Saturday, and Sheils, who will swim the 100m breaststroke on Saturday, 14 other current Crimson Tide swimmers will dive into action starting Sunday, June 13 with the men's 400m individual medley, along with the women's 100m butterfly, the men's 400m freestyle, the women's 400m individual medley and the men's 100m breaststroke.
Coach Margo Geer Said
"The U.S. Olympic Trials is one of the most competitive meets in the world. We have a great group who will be competing, and the staff and I are ecstatic for them to experience a meet of this caliber. The team is carrying a lot of momentum from the collegiate season into the summer, and I'm looking forward to seeing them accomplish their goals both individually, and collectively. We are proud to have such a large contingent taking the stage in Omaha."
