
Alabama’s Shallon Olsen Earns Second Olympic Berth as Part of Team Canada

The rising Crimson Tide senior is heading back to the Olympics after competing at the Rio Games in 2016
MONTREAL, Canada – University of Alabama gymnast Shallon Olsen has been named to the Canadian Olympic Team, Gymnastics Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced on Thursday.
A 2018 World Championships silver medalist in the vault, will be heading to her second Olympic Games later this summer after competing at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she finaled in the vault.
The North Vancouver, B.C., native helped the Canadian women's team qualify for Tokyo 2020 by leading Team Canada to a fifth-place team finish in the qualifying round of the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, Germany in October 2019.
The Crimson Tide All-American helped lead Alabama to the 2021 Southeastern Conference Championship in April and a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Olsen is one a small handful in gymnastics history who continued to train for international competition while competing collegiately.
Olsen On the International Scene
- Olsen is headed to her second Olympic Games after competed in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where she finaled on the vault
- Olsen has competed for Team Canada at the last three World Championships (2017, 2018 and 2019) and advanced to event finals on the vault in all three
- She earned silver at the 2018 World Championships, becoming the first Canadian woman to earn a vault medal at Worlds, posting a score of 14.516 to take second to Team USA's Simone Biles
- Olsen finished fourth on the vault in 2019 and seventh at her first Worlds in 2017
- At the 2019 Pan America Games, she helped lead Canada to a silver medal in the team competition while earning bronze on the vault
- She was a triple medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, taking gold in the team competition and on vault as well as bronze on the floor exercise
