
Alabama Women’s Tennis Standout Alba Cortina Pou Earns ITA Regional Award

The Crimson Tide graduate student was voted the ITA Southern Region Most Improved Senior
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis graduate student Alba Cortina Pou was voted the ITA Southern Region Most Improved Senior, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced this week.
Cortina Pou led Alabama to upset wins over then No. 22 ranked Arkansas and No. 17 Texas A&M during her final season. She earned All-Southeastern Conference honors following a 2021 season in which she moved up the lineup to No. 2 in singles, tallying 14 singles wins and 16 doubles wins in dual match play.

"We're all proud of Alba and feel she is deserving of this distinctive award. Alba vastly improved through her career at Alabama and progressively moved up our lineup to the number two position. Alba was the heart and soul of our Alabama team and led us with a big heart, tremendous sportsmanship and a fierce competitive spirit. Alba Cortina Pou has left a lasting legacy on our Crimson Tide program."
Cortina Pou Crimson Tide Highlights
- A 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American and the 2020 SEC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Cortina Pou excelled at the highest level both in the classroom and on the court
- The Crimson Tide's nominee for the 2021 Southeastern Conference H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in finance and maintains a 4.0 GPA while pursuing her MBA
- A four-year ITA Scholar-Athlete and member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, she has been honored with the ITA Southern Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award
- A President's List (4.0 GPA) honoree every semester of her collegiate career, she has also been honored by the conference as a member of the SEC Community Service Team in 2020 and 2021
- A member of the Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, she notched 68 singles and 59 doubles wins in her UA career
