
Alabama Track and Field Celebrates Strong Show at SEC Outdoor Championships

The Crimson Tide men and women posted their best team finishes in more than 25 years while earning nine individual titles and 20 overall medals
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – As the Alabama track and field teams prepare for the next leg of the championship season, the NCAA Championships East Preliminary, they continues to rake in honors from last weekend's Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships.
The Crimson Tide men finished second while the women were third in the team races. It was the men's best finish at the SEC Outdoors in 37 years and the women's best in 27 years.
In addition to its team success, the Tide tallied nine individual titles and 20 overall medals over the meet's three days. The Crimson Tide also came away with 18 All-SEC honors following the outdoor championships.
Alabama's Southeastern Conference Honors
- SEC Championships (9): Mercy Chelangat (5,000m & 10,000m), Tamara Clark (100m & 200m), Robert Dunning (110m hurdles), Vincent Kiprop (3,000m steeplechase & 10,000m), Eliud Kipsang (1,500m) and Isaac Odugbesan (shotput)
- First Team All-SEC (6): Mercy Chelangat, Tamara Clark, Robert Dunning, Vincent Kiprop, Eliud Kipsang and Isaac Odugbesan
- Second Team All-SEC (10): D'Jai Baker, Nickolette Dunbar, Christian Edwards, Taylor Gorum, Leah Hanle, Daija Lampkin, Ryan Lipe, Natassha McDonald, Kieran McKeag and Amaris Tyynismaa
- Newcomer All-SEC* – Amaris Tyynismaa * New SEC award in 2021, going to sophomores or redshirt freshmen who missed last year's postseason due to the COVID-19 pandemic
- Freshman All-SEC – Eliud Kipsang and Josiah Harry

- Alabama will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary May 27-29 at Hodges Stadium, hosted by the University of North Florida and the Jacksonville Sports Authority
