
Alabama Swimming and Diving Posts Strong Showing at Atlanta Classic

The Crimson Tide broke four school records and posted some of the nation’s top times in the three-day meet
ATLANTA, Ga. – Alabama swimmers enjoyed a big weekend at the Atlanta Classic, the last meet prior to the upcoming United States Olympic Team Trials.
Rhyan White led the way with a pair of school records in the backstroke events. She won the 200-meter backstroke with a career-best 2:07.07, a school record, the third fastest time in the world this year and the ninth all-time in U.S. history on Saturday. She was second in the 100-meter backstroke with another school record, posting a 58.43, which ranks second in the U.S. this year and fourth in the world rankings. White turned in a 58.78 in the 100-meter butterfly to take third in Atlanta and rank 11th in the U.S. this year. White has qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials Wave II in all three events.
More Crimson Tide Highlights
- Cora Dupre went a 1:59.61 to take third in the 200-meter freestyle and 55.12 in the 100 freestyle to finish fifth, setting new school records and earning a Wave II cuts in both.
- Morgan Scott broke the school record in the 50-meter freestyle with a 25.56, taking fifth overall. She closed the weekend with a 55.36 in the 100-meter freestyle to finish eighth. She earned Wave II cuts in both events.
- Matt King posted a 22.71 in the 50-meter freestyle to take sixth and earn a Wave II cut. He also swam a 50.07 in the 100-meter freestyle, posting the fourth fastest time of the race, giving him a Wave I standard.
- Derek Maas took fifth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a 1:02.16, which ranks him 25th in the nation this year and gives him a Wave I cut.
- Morgan Liberto posted a 2:12.75 in the 200-meter backstroke, to earn a Wave II cut. She also went 1:02.04 in the 100-meter backstroke, taking ninth and earning a Wave I standard.
- Cat Wright finaled in the 200 individual medley, taking fifth with a 2:15.78. She also posted a 1:10.25 to finish sixth in the 100 breaststroke. She earned Wave I cuts in both.
- Matt Menke went a 55.78 in the prelims of the 100-meter backstroke before finishing ninth in the finals, earning a Wave I cut.
- Eric Stelmar swam a 2:02.63 in the prelims of the 200-meter backstroke before taking ninth in finals. He also posted a 55.93 in the finals of the 100-meter backstroke, finishing 11th overall. He now has Wave I cuts in both events.
- Christopher O'Connor posted a 2:01.30 in the 200-meter backstroke, taking 11th in the finals. He also swam a 56.28 in prelims of the 100-meter backstroke, taking 19th in the finals. He now has Wave I cuts in both events.
