The Alabama defender will compete in a pair of friendlies during the month of April
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama defender Reyna Reyes has been called up to compete in a pair of European friendlies with the Mexican Women's National Team. Mexico will open its European tour on Saturday, April 10, with a 7 a.m. CT match against Slovakia in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, before facing Spain on April 13 at noon CT in Marbella, Spain.
The call up to the national team was the third this season for Reyes. She was invited to the Senior Women's National Team Camp in January before being asked to compete in back-to-back matches against Costa Rica in February. Reyes saw action in the team's second meeting against Costa Rica, entering the game at the 52nd minute.
Reyes, who competes as a midfielder for the Crimson Tide, has played and started in 14 games this season, recording two goals and two assists for six points. During her rookie campaign at the Capstone in 2019, she scored three goals and earned SEC All-Conference First Team and All-Freshman Team honors. Additionally, she was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Third Team.
Reyes has attended several camps, along with competing in multiple international tournaments, for Mexico's National Team. She was a member of Mexico's 2020 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship team and the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship team, placing second at both tournaments.
