Wilson Furr cards final round 67 to lead the Crimson Tide in Wednesday’s final round
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama men's golfer Wilson Furr carded a score of 4-under par 67 Wednesday to lead the Crimson Tide in the final round of The Collegiate Invitational at the Country Club of Birmingham. As a team, No. 29 Alabama finished in 12th overall with a three-day, 54-hole total of 884 (296-299-289).
Playing on the par 71, 7,226-yard Country Club of Birmingham West Course, the Crimson Tide was one of eight squads in the 14-team field that is ranked among the Golfstat.com top 30 entering the event.
Fourth-ranked Clemson claimed the tournament title with a 2-over par 854, finishing six strokes better than No. 19 Tennessee (860). North Florida (863), ranked No. 22, finished third while No. 10 Vanderbilt (869) and No. 9 Auburn (871) rounded out the top five, respectively.
The event was originally scheduled to be held at Shoal Creek Country Club, however, was forced to reschedule due to the damage that was done to the Shoal Creek course after the state of Alabama got hit hard with heavy storms a couple of weeks ago.
Head Coach Jay Seawell's Post Tournament Comments
"First of all, Birmingham Country Club has been an incredible host. For them to step up in place of Shoal Creek just shows you how special of a place it is. What a treat for our team – really all of the teams – to play as this course which is one of the top places in the United States. Our guys had a chance to play somewhere which exposes some areas we need to work on before we head to the SEC Championships. I'm proud of our guys today. Our big three guys all played well. We have to go to work. We have to find a fourth scorer and maybe a little mojo that goes along with that. If we can do that, we are capable of doing some special things in the postseason."
